Water condensation in winter question

I have a 97 maxima gle with auto climate control. I have noticed considerable condensation under my car and I am running the heater. Its definitley condensation but whats causing it? Does the AC run in the heat mode? Thnk you for responses.

Yes - when you run in AUTO mode, the A/C runs to help eliminate humidity from inside the car (this is how defrost mode works too).

In the winter I use the Econ mode because in Auto it runs the a/c compressor, which I dont need.
