Does he mean the clutch slave cylinder? Your symptoms would be the clutch would fail to disengage fully, you would have difficulty shifting gears.

Why don't you tell us more about your symptoms?

If you want people to try to help you out, you should tell us the symptoms of the problem. Then maybe someone can help you diagnose your problem.

I'm having a new clutch put in the 29th. Should I also have the slave cylinder replaced with it? The clutch has been slipping HORRIBLY (I'm at 157k miles). It's been going for a while now, but its at the point where if I'm in any gear and try to give it more than a certain amount of gas it slips out of gear and just revs. Makes it really tough driving up hill. The mechanic said he wont know until he takes it out if it needs to be replaced, and then it will depend on local dealer stock if I can still get the car back same day. What are other symptoms of the slave cylinder going bad?

if its just the clutch slipping then your slave cylinder is fine, your clutch is the thing that needs replacement. if you had a bad slave you would not be getting clutch slippage, you would have problems changing gears which is a whole different thing. the pedal would feel mushy (air in the system) and the shifter would have to be forced very hard into each gear, sometimes, you may not even be able to start the car, or it may jump forward like you stalled when it starts. a bad slave means that either the pin pushing the clutch fork has slipped out of place or developed a leak... either way, air would be getting into the system from the slave cylinder and you would be able to feel it in the clutch pedal. from the description you have given, it seems like your clutch disc has worn out and should be replaced along with a new pressure plate and throwout bearing.

thanks densetsu, sounds like I should be all set then... I got those three parts. I read up trying to find out which clutch is better, and I went with the one that courtesynissan has listed, it came to around 200 with shipping for the three parts; hopefully they're not Key value. I did ask someone at courtesy if they were, and he said no.

key value isnt that bad actually. ive been running it for about 40k miles and it still grips like new. im actually suprised at how well it had lasted, i thought it would be utter sh*t and burn out in a month but low and behold its been a survivor. definetely got my money's worth (basically stock though).
