Bad Strut Mounts = Clicking Sounding????????
Bad Strut Mounts = Clicking Sounding????????
Today I finally got a chance to replace my CV Joints.. They have been bad for a few years and on one joints I was completely missing the rubber.. So I replaced the whole Joint. Before this I noticed that when i turned my steering wheel either way without moving, I would hear almost like a clicking sound. I know when driving the CV Joints click while turning. So my dad told me that my Strut Mounts are bad. He also told me that the next thing I should do is get some new struts. So my question is will the Strut Mounts cause a clicking sound while turning the wheel at a stand still?? And should I wait to get new struts before I replace the Strut Mounts or do the Mounts now because my struts are still fairly good?? All info is greatly appreciated. Thanks
I had my shocks/springs replaced at 32K, but they did not replace mounts as I provided the parts. I get a clicking at times from the front end, now I guess I know what it is, thanks. I'll look into replacing the mount bearings or mounts when it warms up.
I wanted to add that the sound I have is not so much a clicking soung but more of a knocking sound in the front end. It mostly happens when I turn the wheel when I am not moving; as opposed to the CV Joints clicking while I am moving which has stopped since I replaced the Joints. Would anyone recomeend just replacing the whole mount instead of the bearing because i have 120K on my max. Thanks

The bearings allow the springs to move freely when you turn the steering wheel. When the bearings go bad the actual spring starts to turn when the sterring wheel is turned causing the noise.

The bearing allows the strut & spring assembly to rotate when you turn the wheels. When the bearing goes bad or dries up, the spring tends to bind up a bit as it's not rotating freely when you turn your wheels.
