I had the exact same thing yesterday when driving home. I accidentaly hit the "cd changer" button. I don't have a cd changer btw. So i push in the cd and the err thing came up. It wouldn't eject or play the cd. I tried turning the power off and on while driving and it wouldn't do anything. When i got home i shut the car off for a couple secs and restarted, i hit the eject button, the cd came out, pushed it back in and havent had the problem again. Maybe just a glitch or the system got confused looking for a cd changer, not quite sure but that is what happened and that is what i did to get it working again.

Its a common problem with the Bose units. Try a CD lens cleaner - if that doesn't work, you can either pull the headunit out and use (www.carstereohelp.com) for the repair or pick up a replacement (used) headunit off ebay. Any double-din Bose headunit from a 95-99 Maxima will be a direct replacement (regardless of what the faceplace looks like)... the other route is to get an aftermarket headunit and a conversion adapter... see crutchfield.com for more details on what will fit and what adapters, etc. you need.
