5pd Tranny Conversion How Serious??
~$800, maybe more, maybe less. All depands for how much you find parts. It is serious, meanign involves a lot of work. Doing it first time, then expect to spend tonns of time on research and couple of days to do this.
I bought all of the parts that u need i just need to get a new drive axele and act clutch disk everything came out to be 850 with a working 5 speed tranny @ 78k miles. Its goin to be alot of work. But whne u look at its not really all that dificult the probably the most dificult part would be takeing out the auto tranny and installing the clutch and the flywheel, Im probabaly goin to do the swap, but I might sell the car and get a 328IS so right now its laying in the garage nothing doing much but its not a 5h job it will atleast take 2 days easy. but its possible i would of probabaly done it with out alot of complication but since its gettign cold im probabaly not goin to have a chance to do it till spring. So lets see how things develops.
So like Vlad said its ALOT of work

its not that hard...im not sure on the price, but ur looking at around 1000 average.
im doing on on my 240.
just need to get a clutch pedal. clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder and while ur at it get the stainles clutch lines. and then i just hacked the break pedal in half. and then u might have to get the ecu for a M/T

Take your caps off and read the stickys.
Can I convert a automatic to a 5-speed?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes.
Warning: This is not a weekend project! This involves time and money and someone who knows what they are doing!

Excluding labor.. realistically set off about $2000 for everything
The transmission itself may run about $800 to $1000 then another $1000 in misc interior and transmission parts like the slave cyl... etc... also figure in if your going to get a flywheel and what type of clutch.. just a clutch may run around $300...

Best combo is the Crimson Red SE-L with black leather
I'm actually thinking of doing the 5 speed conversion within the next year... problem is the car will never be the same again or run like a car that was originally a 5 speed.

Its not something you wont notice, just dont be surprised if you have problems, theres bound to be small glitches. The reason being that everything that comes from the factory is made at certain tolerances and quality, when you do it on a car that didnt come that way its not going to be the same as a stock 5 speed. You may have noises or small rattles that originally were never there.
Then it depends on whos doing the procedure, how he cuts this, bolts that up... I think you get the idea.

I was unaware that GLE's can't be sporty.
Its all about what tranny you get. A POS 4th gen non-lsd 5Spd can be found for ~$600. The right thing to do would be '01 AE 5Spd(Stronger and LSD) All the rest is about $800. An OEM clutch can be found for $200 at Courtesy but I included that in the $800.

im having it done by top element tuning and i heard andy is pretty good, so hopefully i wont have any problems!
I've done two tranny conversions. The hardest part, by far, is installing the clutch pedal. I hate working under the dash. But that's just me. Everything else is pretty straightforward if you have the right tools.
