Hi, i recently got my drivers license finally, and i just purchased a 1997 Maxima GXE. I am in the middle of buying a pair of Borbet Type E 17X8 Rims, and i am now prompted to buy some new tires, but i have no idea of what size to buy for my car and the rims. Someone please help me, and excuse me for being a newbie.

BTW, I see all these storys of being able to beat 5.0 Mustangs. I want to do this too !!

Go for the Bridgestone Potenza RE-730. If that's within your price range. Awesome tire good looks.

Welcome to the .org!! You're gonna get addicted!!

I believe it's 235/45/17. I'm not positive though. If ya go to the front page there's a section Max Faq's. That's where ya need to go. It does say that that is the correct size.

Yeah I noticed that as well, although I have the SE. Discount tire here has my OEM size as being 205/60/16. I had a slight argument with one of the managers there about it. I said um I'm pretty sure you're computers are wrong because the stock SE size is 215/55/16. He just wouldn't believe me so I left.

Either ebay or Nissan dealership. Most spoilers on ebay are replicas. I don't know if there's any difference between replica and OEM spoiler.

Hiya cRedrum and welcome!
You should invest in a copy of SportCompactCar magazine! You'll be able to find quite a few goodies for your Max in the ads! Stillen is one company that carries the most stuff for the Max but many people here deem them to be expensive. You can also check out the Nopi website for parts at www.nopi.com.

Also, when you buy the stillen aero kit for the 97-99 maximas, you have to get it painted yourself ?

first... dont ever buy anything from stillen for their list price (as you can now see) I got it from Phong, (Got Rice?), but the other place that may give you a good price is Avalon racing. Whenever you're about to buy something more than gas for your maxima, ask in the forums first because chances are you have no idea where the best price is

I picked one up off of Ebay about a year ago. I think I got it for $100 including shipping. It was a replica, had a relative paint and install for me at no charge. I had same deal, got a 96 GLE without a wing so picked one up. Only problem is now I have the third brake light still staring out the back window. Have to get rid of it.

Check the group deals section of Maxima.Org to see if someone has started a group deal for the body kit. I organized one a few months ago through Phuong.

Hello Newbie:

I've read really rave reviews about the Yokahama AVSdB tires -- how they are supposed to be really quiet on the road noise
When my Bridgestone Potenza tires wear out, I might try a set of those --

Although I wonder how quiet the lower profile versions would be on Maximas -- with the beam axle rendering a fixed -1 degree camber --

I suggest doing your shopping at the TIRE RACK -- www.tirerack.com -- Everything they carry is quality stuff --

For a newbie driver, I think that 17X8 wheels might be a bit much --- besides, the stock suspension isn't going to make good use of a higher performance tire -- those expensive tires will get wasted very, very quickly on a stock suspension --

Take some time -- work on your driving -- save some money -- educate yourself about your car -- and when you are ready, go buy some mods if you don't decide to just buy a different car --

You sure do want to do a lot of stuff. I would say don't do the body yet. Get the all of the other stuff done first. I have a 97 GXE and wanted the wing on it until I saw the same color GXE with it and I changed my mind. The 97 Max is a good looking car and I think the 97 GXE looks good without it. Makes the car's body look cleaner. If you are getting a body kit, then go with the wing.

I would go for a FSTB, RSTB, rear sway bar, or springs(Eibach or H&R)
