Starting Issues (not starter related)

So its a '96 5 speed and ever since the Canadian whether has droped into the low celcius (0-5 degrees) it doesn't want to start properly. What happens is that once the key is turned, the vehicle starts but its revs go to 1500 (cold start rev) but then drop down and the car shuts off. So to get it to stay on i turn the key and as the revs immediately go to 1500 i apply a little gas (partial throttle) to keep it manually at 1500 for about 5 seconds and then its fine. After the initial start up it keeps its revs at 1500 for a bit until it warms up and then drops to about 650-750 for normal idle. The only reason that i can think of is that i still have my JWT intake on. I have the temperature sensor acually in the intake so i don't think its taking a wrong reading because of the cold. What else could this be? MAF, lack of an airbox, Coolant Temp Sensor, ???? and no codes??? i am getting the popular starter wine upon start up for a few secs but the car still starts up on first try.

Try using 5W30 oil. Its a little thinner and will lubricate better in the cold.

Check your fuel pump. It might not like to work in the cold.

Could be a million problems. get a tune up too. try changing brands of fuel. I dont know what else to think of off hand.

thanks for the overwhelming suggestion
I guess I should only expect suggestions to questions pertaining to air intakes, ebay 20+ hp drop resistors, and where to mount LED lights

more for your list lol
crankshaft position sensor
engine coolant temperature sensor
also check your battery and charging system, they may be weak in the cold weather
