Smoked...

Last night I raced one of my coworkers who just got a 2000 audi S4. I thought hey my max is a sleeper she may have a really nice car but i can stay with her. NO chance whatsoever. The Quattro AWD blew me off the line and once i got some speed her twin turbos took control of the race-she was gone. Her max speed was 140 (probably with a little headroom) but I topped out at 120 (tried to accl in 3rd and 4th and wouldent go any faster). Just curious why did I top out at 120 and what kind of mods would get me a few mph's?

i saw this in the FAQ forum, so i guess they do help, its probably your speed limiter and im not gonna explain how to bypass it so just read the FAQs like everyone else is gonna say...

you topped out at 120 because you have a speed limiter.

- its not rocket science. The only mod you need is to disable it.

I thought the speed limiter topped you out at 115 and was very obvious in that it cut the gas to the engine?

If your running an auto, I remember reading that if you don't run 3rd til redline (<-- OD off), and it shifts to overdrive before hand, you won't have enough power to keep accelerating.
Also, wtf were you thinking??? The least you coulda done was run her from a roll...

First I tried to stay in 3rd but i was at about 6k rpms and i wasnt gaining (highway might have been slightly uphill) then i switched to 4th (OD) and the rpms went to about 4k but i still didnt gain unless it was about 1 mph barely noticeable.

Second we tried both ways from a roll and from a stoplight (i even cheated a bit ) but i still got destroyed. you just cant f*$k with twin turbo.

keep it in 3rd untill 6.5 k rpm, and then turn on the over drive, itle put you into a more powerfull rpm... you should READ THE FAQ'S before posting this kinda $hit. Your max wont stand a chance against that s4 for a while, certainly not with little mods... I think the most we can get outa our maxes N/A is 250-270 fwhp. There are big ballers though that have 560 fwho and 600 tq, so if you feel like you need more, there is always the boost. And i dont sugest going that fast if you just got your licence, death sucks...

Word of advicde-
I know I'm fairly new to the org but you are a *******, pick up a magazine and read the acceleration stats and then you'll know how that audi smoked ya(why not go after a 350Z or M3 next time speed racer). At least read the stickies and search for answers, it takes 15 or 20 mins to gain basic Max knowledge, you will get reemed when you place retarded posts just like this one.

I don't know much about cars but I assumed it possible that a more efficient exhaust system could increase top speed by say 5 mph if you assumed i thought it would get up to S4 speed with a y pipe you are the idiot.

95VQ30: If you had read my posts you would know that i never actually expected to beat the audi i just thought it would be fun and i could see how my car performs against a much more expensive one. oh and dont worry i dont care about getting "reemed" on the internet.

CystumMax just provided an example to you tyrexx about how cars can "top out" without having a speed limiter. they just reach their top speed. seeing as how i have over 113000 miles on my car and its 10 yrs old i dont think it topping out around 120 is that terrible.

specs--
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2000/aud...denav..6.Audi*
Road Test--
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2000/aud...ontent...Audi*
It takes 2 turbos to make that v6 250hp

Try and knock the S4 all you want, it will still spank Maximas all day long. They're great cars that run well whether you're downtown, on the E-way, or carving up a mountain. You simply can't **** with a well boosted engine and AWD. We can't hang. Period.

"It takes 2 turbos to make that V6 250hp" ???? What a statement - as if the engine is struggling to make 250! Those are modest power numbers considering what the engine can actually do. My brother has a buddy with a yellow 2000 S4, and with an ECU upgrade, boost controller, intake, and 3" exhaust from the turbo back he dyno'd at 342hp at the WHEELS. God knows what he'll put down when he gets a front mount. Audi's 2.7T has been praised almost as much as our VQ, so it's pointless to act as if it's a shoddy piece of machinery.

For some reason I was reading through this and seeing A4 instead of S4 and wondering whats so special about an A4... then I finally read S4 and it all makes sense. You'd be an idiot to race one.

Statement above sums it up nicely, My bro used to drive a 95' M3 w/ 250hp and it sure dosn't feel like 250hp in a balanced and tuned sports edition audi vs. "grocery getter"

it is a shoddy piece of machinery!!!....the 2.7T has many recalls and TSB's....my brothers pearl white 2000 S4 has had 2 sets of turbos replaced by the factory and he uses mobil 1 and has a turbo timer!!! that's right, he's on his 3rd set and that was when he was stock!!! now he has chip, intake, and exhaust...god knows how long it's gonna last now...the intercooler hoses keep blowing off on him and he looses all boost, then he has to make an appointment, wait a week, then take it in...totally sux!!! nice interior....way to heavy a car to handle well though....great brakes stock, except the rotors are notorious for warping under even light braking loads after a couple thousand miles...so most owners replace them right away with brembo blanks...!! he has also had cam seals replaced, rack and pinion, brakes twice, intercooler hoses, throttle body boot, winshield wiper resevior twice, and master cylinder once...by the way, he only has 30K miles on it!!! and it's not like the same dealership is working on it...and screwing it up...he has taken it to several dealerships....

I am sure he has a lemon...but regardless, the car is a typical german POS....very expensive to fix and maintain and impossible to work on....they crammed the engine in there with a shoe horn it looks like....!!! not to mention...b4 he had the chip when he had only intake and exhaust, I put 3 car lengths on him in the 1/4 (now he'd prolly put 3 on me)...but of course he's an auto and i'm not...although intake and exhaust gives him 20whp cause he's boosted...

My brother's buddy has 57k on his, with ZERO of the problems you mention. He bought the car in 2003 and it was "certified used," so recalls were handled before he took ownership (unless new ones have arose). Plus it had no history of problems in the maintenance log, and the CarFax was clean on it. But I know plenty of guys running that 2.7T in either the S4 or A6 and have heard no horror stories. Crazy how one person can have such a good experience with a car, while someone else can have a terrible experience. Also, ever looked through our TSBs? We've got more than a few to browse.....

German POS? High maintenance/repair costs are their only fault, in my opinion. The country didn't get its reputation as the world's premier automotive builder by making pieces of shyte.

s4 are great cars... the boost issue is solved by simple samco hoses and we all have our tsb's to worry about. but a black/red s4 with 410 awdhp is a great thing

S4 are really great cars IMO. My friend's father has one, never has had any problems with it. Really quick and responsive. I've raced it before (just to measure up the max), we'll just say that I won't do it again. It's really a great car, hopefully one day...

One thing I got to say, Prove It, Aint no way that heavy lug is going to hall low 13 stock, With a really godlike driver they barley brake into high 13's

I also think that if that engine didnt have its 2 turbos it would be the slowest crap car.
