messed up clutch?
i have a 96 5 speed and my clutch is messed up and i dont know how to fix it and i keep getting different opinions on what is wrong with it i think it is the syncros but im not so sure. There really is no way to explain what is wrong with it but basically it feels like turbo lag with out a turbo, its sort of like i am riding my clutch but im not.

could be the synchos.
does it occur when your shifting down? does double clutching help get rid of the "lag" or is it still there regardless.
there is a write up in the stickies on how to change your clutch, not sure if you want to take on the task, but the knowledge is there if you chose to do so.

Turbo lag without the turbo? As in, when you floor it after you shift you don't accelerate much? If so the clutch is slipping, gotta replace it.
If it were the syncros, you wouldn't feel a lag. a Syncro is just what enables you to go in and out of each gear. So if a syncro is bad, then you would have trouble going into a gear, usually feels like a hard rubbery barrier going into the gear(if you can get into the gear at all), some people grind gears going into it with a worn syncro.

You need a new clutch. The same thing happened to me a week ago friday. It felt like turbo lag. Then the next night I drove it hard about 100 miles and that was it, no more clutch. Now I have to take it to 6500RPM before it catches. Since it was the hollidays I couldn't get it in to be fixed until this tuesday so I drove my moms 2002 altima friday night. wow do those altimas suck in handling and breaking. Maybe are SE's just have such a good suspention because i went racing around this park with 4 other people in my car that I always take my max to at about 1AM and lost control going 80MPH around a curve and hit the curb and went off the road between about 8 trees (1 took off my mirror). Its going to cost about $2200 in damage to fix my moms altima wheel crap and mirror. Everywhere I have called said $700 to fix the clutch is this right? If so this clutch going out just cost me $2900.
Looks like the max is going to be up for sale because I don't have $2900 laying around and I will have to buy some crappy tauras or something like it. It's probably for the best I need a slow car for sure.
