Malfunction indicator light on

96 maxima GXE 5 speed. Today when I drive, I found malfunction indicator light was on. The owner's manual says it may indicate a emission control problem. Does anyone know how to find the problem?

You mean the Check Engine Light? Look in the stickies for how to check the codes in the ECU, then let us know what codes you get.

Welcome to the org by the way!

The light is always on but not blink. The light on my 96 maxima owner's manual is called malfunction indicator light. I can not find check engine light in my owner's manual. Maybe these two light are same but have different names.

If it says service engine soon, thats your CHeck engine light. It won't blink unless you put the car into diagnostic mode, then you can get the codes. Follow the link in the stickies under ECU codes
