call dallas @ warpspeed performance...and discuss your options with him...they will give you the low down with decibel readings...as well as all the other options for exhaust setups out there....

I was just out at Centerreach for thanksgiving

If you want power, get a Y pipe...

For a catback thats quiet the only way to go is stock. Get a resonated B pipe to eliminate the crush right after the resonator and stick with a stock muffler or 5th gen muffler.

Greddy cat-back exhaust...www.customenterprise.com

or you could do a magna flow muffler from a local muffler shop with a 2.25" catback resonated.

the muffler looks like this

and will sound like this with a Y pipe http://www.v6atlanta.com/justin/maxima/maxima%20117.avi (right click and save as)

Bang for the buck, just a Y pipe. 15 dyno proven wheel hp, zero sound increase. If you are dead set on more exhaust work then there are a number of quiet catbacks out there, including apexi WS, cattman, and greddy sp2 though they are all louder than stock, but not loud. Or you could just get a ypipe and bpipe and keep the stock muffler. Muffler doesn't really consitute a restriction anyhow until you really start flowing some gasses like if you have alot of boltons or FI.

And btw I think it's cool that a dad and son are modding together. My dad, even though I'm 24 and living on my own, still gives he heck about "wasting" all my money on my car.

Hey, spend it while you can. If you got a job, and no wife/kids, it's good to get it out of your system now. Once other financial obligations pop up, you're best off saving every penny you can and investing it. The correlary: anybody who's modding and has wife+kids and isn't making 6 figures needs to check their priorities (IMO).

{message from a geezer who caught the mod bug late in life but has the budget for it}

I get the same complaints from my folks. they dont know about intake or about my next mod....y-pipe. definetly the best bang for your buck mod.

Like everyone else say's, go with the Y-Pipe. And if you want to get more out of it, get a short ram air intake from ebay. Most exaust system will make noise. Also intake will make noise, but it sounds good, its not anoying.

holly $hit !!!!!

i wish i had a dad like this. everytime i order something for the car, my dad starts lecturing on how im wasting money, anything from 91 octane to some amber lights to washing the car or buying new windshield wipers is considered waste of money to him. basically he ruins it all for me

1998 maxima, ~10 grand
91 octane gas, $2.55
y pipe, 160

a dad who understands the love for cars, PRICELESS

how old are you sir ?!

Yeah, my dad understands how I love my car, at first He was like WTF you waising your money on your car for, Then I was like dad, look, its my hobby, I love what Im doing, then he was ok with it, after that i spent like a crap load and he was like, look dont go racing on the streets and ****, so I made a deal with him that I would take it to the trax, Still dont got the bawlz to tell my mom that IM racing that car.

But if you want a nice quiet set up w/0 power loss, Get a Y-pipe, Resnoated B-pipe, and a stock 5thgen exhaust, I think it would sound great, and youll love the extra power. But if your trying to save money, skip the b-pipe, and go to a local muffler shop and they can custom make you one for 60buks

i say u get a y-pipe and that would help the exhaust flo alot. but once u get a y-pipe any other exhuast u get after that would be louder due to the increased air flow. if price isnt an option i say u buy the dual exhaust from custom maxima cause it sounds nice.

it took my parents a long time to understand that modding my car is my hobby.. they used to get pissed when I spent money on the car, but now they don't really care as long as I have enough money to live off of.

Before I put on an OBX exhaust system, I had a Forza Tuning muffler on. It gave a nice tone and added some hp to the car. As stated by others, there are many exhausts or you can take the route of using just a y-pipe.

Thanks!!

Wow! You guys are great. Thanks for all the responses. I think we will go with a resonated B pipe and new muffler to start 2.5 dia. Then a y down the road. To answer I am 50 my son is 18. We share the love of cars and modding is a good way to stay connected. I agree with one post I would not neglect other family obligations, I would just be smart and do what you can alittle at a time. And most of all have fun with it. Thanks again everyone!

I'd say for the exhaust you should probably stick to 2.25 because your not going to get much gains with a larger diameter pipe to keep the exhaust gases moving quickly. On the other hand, if you order a Y pipe, you will see a big difference in performance.

My dad says I'm wasting money, but he doesn't lecture me too badly on my car just tells me if I want something too save for it and then when I have the money too buy it. Plus I plan on going to UTI next year so he lets my modding slide.

One cool thing is, he helps me with some of the installs like the suspension and stuff.

I wish my dad was more into it like I am though.

For someone with a fart can, I wouldnt be trying to justify that.
I have a resonator with my flowmaster and its still loud...
