cost of repairs?

that dreaded cel is on. ran the codes and got 0302, EGR System Hi/Low Flow. And 0304, knock sensor. any estimates on how much that'll set me back? labor fees would also be appreciated. and while i'm posting, can anyone tell me what pieces i need to get to hook up my autometer oil pres gauge to the block? it's electric.

Knock Sensor: $100 (on ebay)
This is a common problem with our cars, it's an easy fix, just a pain in the **** to get to. The sensor is under the intake, you can get to it without taking the intake off, just wear gloves or you'll cut up your hands pretty good.

EGR Valve: $100 roughly, plus the gasket.
I'd replace the knock sensor first, reset your ecu and see if you're still pulling an EGR code. Check the forum for any EGR related threads, there may be more info on this issue.

For your gauge, you'll need the sending unit from autometer from what I understand. You may be able to tap the ECU wiring for the pressure, but I have no idea which wire to use. I'm sure someone here can answer that question for you soon enough

The codes by themselves are not usually enough to diagnose the problem. Someone needs to run through a set of diagnostic checks to isolate what is wrong. There are orderly procedures called out in the Factory Service Manual. Using a multimeter and a vacuum tester, someone who is knowledgeable can find the trouble before they start replacing parts blindly.

Likely causes are EGR Solenoid Valve needs to be replaced, or EGR Valve Body needs to be cleaned out. The knock sensor code is probably there because something is wrong with the EGR system, not the knock sensor itself.

If you are doing this yourself, check the FAQs and stickies. Your problem is pretty common.

I agree with MilesA, don't replace the knock sensor yet. (And you don't need to stick your hand in there - buy a 1/4" drive pivoting head 12mm socket, 1/4" drive 14" long extension, and a 1/4" drive ratchet)

Replace the EGR, then clear the codes and see if the knock code reappears. Usually the knock code comes with other codes and means nothing. Only replace the knock if the code for it comes alone.

It looks good. I bought one recently, received two by accident (my lucky day) and I resold the extra one for $95.

But still, he/she needs to replace the EGR first. Knock sensors go for $90-100 on Ebay regularly.
