lurching when stopped in drive

I guess lurching isn't the way to explain it, but when I am stopped (i.e. at a stoplight, etc.) and in drive, my car lucrhes ever so often (meaning it sort of stutters...oh hell, I'm having a hard time putting it into words, hopefully you get what I'm saying!:\ Anyway, I am trying to maybe get an idea what it could be. Also, when I start up the car, after it starts, there is a grinding sound for a second after the first rev on the start. Any ideas.

yes, I am an auto, I just saw a post a little bit down that sounded similar to the problem that I was having. The response said that you should try cleaning the throttle body? Does this sound like the fix? Is this hard to do? Can I find a description of how to do it on the forum?

The lurching MIGHT be your master brake cylinder.

Once you stop, and the car lurches, can you stop it by pressing further on the brake pedal ? Once stopped, if you pump the brake does the car still lurch. Don't ever let go of the pedal, just push down and let it up a little and keep doing this.

If the car stops lurching in either case, you may want your master brake cylinder checked.

In both cases, you are making the master cylinder work harder than it should have to, to keep the car in place.

And of course, the obvious, check your brake pads and make sure they aren't worn down, check your fluid level, etc.
