95-96 Custom made clear tail lights

Has anyone made custom clear's for the 95-96 maxina using the stock tail lights. If anyone did please respond back. What would you use for the clear part of it? Are they hard to do?

if this was possible, it would already have been in the faq's because they're the most wanted item for the 95/96.

How much did that all end up costing you? Did you get it painted or just find one in your color?

If you can find a donor car I would guess around $400 for everything.. trunk, lights and bumper already painted.

Why is the 95/96 stock conversion to red/clears so hard/impossible to do??

I've actually been waiting for someone to ask this but was afraid to ask myself because it's a noob question...

Because the amber portion is part of the light itself

on 97-99's the amber portion is a piece of amber plastic inside of the light.

I've never seen your car.. what color is it?

Have no fear, theres always a good answer to it all.

Get all the parts and a stillen kit and paint it all at once

MDeezy, are you serious? If so, hook us up!!!

If some manufacturers were to start selling red/clears for 95/96s, they would make bank (*hint hint* for anyone willing to take this on)

MDeezy I believe is talking about the write-up for the 97-99 Maximas. We can't do it. DTM or Red them out is your best bet. I decided to red them out.

For the record somebody did try to cut out the orange and insert clear plastic. I saw pictures, it did not look good and if my memory is correct, there were fitment problems/leaks.

I've got black emerald...there's a green that's pretty close, but I don't know if it would look ok. I like the stillen kit idea ...you're a smart man ant.

How do you guys think the David L ones were made? he cut the top part of a altezza light and the top part of the stock light and soldered it together.

I would do a 97-99 Conversion but I got a stillen kit on my car and now way I am going to waste money on a new rear valence and front lip.

also any pics of the stock 96-96 taillights with the orange part in black? sounds cool but want to see pics? any write ups?

Not sure if you're kidding vsamoylov (and if you are I apologize for ruining your fun ), but the davidL's were made by painting all clears back when all clears were still being made (I think by APC).

gotta search thru my docs, there is a lot.

would the clearing out on the 97+ be the same process for 95? dont see how there would be much change.

sorry it was the 97+ I saw thought it was 95-96 on vqpower, but wouldnt the process still be the same for all years? if so then this write up is the same for 95/96s just that the amber is onthe top.

I occasionally see people with 95-96 red/clears in their signitures, cardomains, etc...

So how did these people get red/clears??

Back in the day, they manufactured all clear tails. Since the all clear tails did NOT have the red reflector on it, they were illegal so they stopped producing them (they could've just painted them red and sold them like that, but the buyer's market isn't big enough for them to produce them - not sure why they still make altezzas...)

The orange/amber part of the 95/96 tails IS PART OF THE TAIL LIGHT ITSELF. You can't just remove it like the 97-99 tails. DavidL's were made by taking all clear tails and painting the bottom half red.

The red/clears you find/see/"wish you had" were old all clear tails that were painted red. Since they stopped making all clear tails, these are considered rare and you have to pay a lot just to get them ($300+ on eBay), but that money can be used for much better things. That's why I tinted the top half of mine and saved my money (after all, it's only a car ) The black/red tails looks nice on my white Max (now I just have to fix the body damage and get better rims)

Some pics with camera phone (night pics are terrible, but fine during the day)

All of them painted and 2 layers of clear coat:

Sort of hard to see, but all of them are black/red except outer right side:

On my Max:

Pic from school parking lot w/ another org member's Max (ignore the body damage on my car )

More Pics: http://www.jatan.net/tails Will take better high res pics w/ a real digi cam later on

3 layers of Nite Shades tint spray w/ 2 layers of clear coat. Dried darker than it looked, but the light comes through perfectly fine

I personally like my black/red better than how the red clears look on the 96's.
I dunno why, white on top looks stange to me

You are on teh right track with that... but instead, but the least expensive set of altezzas you can find, take off the WHOLE lense on your stock tails and the tezzas, paint the bottom half of the tezza lense red and place them over your stock tail light housing. do the same for the lights on the trunk too so they match. I will be doing this soon when I have some extra money and time...just in case it looks terrible.

Yep, bought it for $9 + $6 s/h from that seller. The clear coat was $4 at Pep Boys.

From what I've read in the past is that the inner altezza tails are easy to open, but the outers ones are a PITA. I did try to open one of the outer ones, but it wouldn't budge... Sold them to a local guy since I never put them on (was planning on doing the skyline mod to it, but decided to stick with stock tails)

Did you try sticking them in a oven or using a heat gun to get the lense off? I havent tried it yet, but I would assume its much the same as doing the AE mod. If someone wants to do the clear/red tails, then I'm sure they'd be willing to patiently try this, versus paying hundreds and hundreds for a set on ebay to pop up.

And if worst came to worst and you cant pop it off or pry it off somehow without breaking it, use a dremel and cut the lense off of the altezza housing( you wont have any use for it afterwards anyways)- carefully and then wet sand it down to make it smooth so you dont scratch it all up like crazy. I'm going to try it over the winter- need to get a cheap set of altezzas and another set of stock tails in case i screw up
