99 jumps when accelerating: NEED HELP

I have a 99 SE in 5spd... Has anyone had the same problem of the car jumping/staggering when accelerating? This is never a problem in 1st gear but for the rest of the gears it is... When I try to 'gun it' the car cant release its full power and it kind of jumps... it feels like it has the power in it but something is holding/restricting it to accelrate quicker and smoothly..... Can it be something with the fuel injectors? Coilovers?

This has been going on for about a year already and its just pissing me off. I am about to put on my y-pipe and a new cat. conv. and i really dont want to have this problem to continue b/c then the new mod.'s would almost be pointless unless i get this problem fixed.

If any has had a similar probem can you please g,
ive me some pointers or suggestions..........

Thanks in advance for your help

probably ignition coils (not coilovers, thats suspension). when it "jumps" does the cel flash? how many miles are on it?

could be that your knock sensor is going bad b/c of age/mileage, won't light the SES but there's a ghost code for it

yo i have this same problem but it started like a week after i bought the car so i though i just didnt notice it before. I have a 99 but never really cared to check that out. Is it like if youre going up an on ramp on a highway or lets say at around 50mph and floor it, it hits like normal into gear then kinda feels like it lets off on acceleration for a quick second then back into the hard accel. Kinda like if you were to be in 2nd gear in a manual car and be half down on the throttle at mid/high rpm then want to go fast so floor it then half throttle then floor it again all in a quick second? (thats what it feels like for me anyway). Ive always wondered why mine does that and no one elses? thought it was the tranny or somthing. MAybe thats why my 95 can beat my 99? ill try switching out the coils from my 95 to the 99 and see if that helps my problem then ill let you know. Otherwise if anyone else wants to comment on what im experiancing or knows anything about my prob let me know id be glad to hear any suugestions on what to do to fix it. -Ryan

YES the CEL flashes when that happens... I usually let go of the pedal and stop accelerating when i start to feel it starting to jump and just apply less presure to the gas pedal.... and thats how i usually try to avoid making the CEL flash....... but when i really gun it and i get to the point where i really dont care if it starts to flash (since i know its going to happen anyway) ..... so it flashes for a while then just kinda goes either off in a little while or when i turn the car off and start it again it doesnt re-appear.....

the car has 94,000 miles on it......

and i also have a problem when i start the car sometimes..... sometimes when i go to turn the car on it makes this high pitched noise..... the same noise that the car makes when you try to turn the ignition to on and/even tough the car is already on...... it might make this noise two or three times, but it then turns on normally after a few tries..... anyone else have this problem....../

Almost exactly what I've been experiencing. I floor it and I can feel the rev meter is lagging a little, and something just is not right. And if I keep going hard, the CEL comes on and blinks for a good 10 seconds. I haven't had this problem too recently though, but maybe that's because I've been a bit more cautious with super fast starts. I think my coil's were already replaced at 50k, now I'm at 137k (99 max).

I have the same problem when starting the car. I have a hard time starting especially in cold weather. Sounds like a tight belt screeching or something. Someone told me it might be the starter lacking grease making it sound like a belt slipping....

sounds like your knock sensor, if it feels choked of gas at some points that would be a good indication, i could feel my timing jumping around like crazy during acceleration and i could drive it without happening if i was slow accelorating...but it was so slow it was unpractical...hook up a obdII and take it for a drive
