CV boot

how do you know when your cv boot is messed up and how much does it cost to replace it.

i get a loud ticking noise whenever i accelerate and when im off the throtle or on neutral, the ticking stops.

and also i get this loud clonking noise on the pas. side where i can even feel the car shaking a bit when accelarating also. but when off the throtle or on neutral, noise dissapears.

can anyone help???

i really need to get this fixed but i have no idea what it is. thanx.

Axle is toast. It will cost exactly how much a local mechanic charges you. Call around

cant be the axle, if it was, wouldn't it make the noise regardless if i was on the gas or not?
and btw, i did have it replaced, and it still made the noise. so the guy did not charge me for it and put my old one back on, so i dont think it is the axle, it must be something else.

You can see the cv boots by looking under the car with the wheel either on or off. I checked mine about two weeks ago to find out what this grinding noise was. Turns out my boot was ripped and the grease was worn out causing the axle to grind. I had both cv axles replaced.

thats the thing, i had my axles replaced, and they were not bad. so is there a way that only the cv boots can be bad except for the axles?

If you replace the axle you replace the CV, so unless the old one and the one the mechanic put in were bad then that's not your problem.

Look at the wheel well to see if there is grease. Then if you turn your wheel all the way to the right, you can check if the CV boot is ripped on the passenger side. You can check the drivers side by doing the opposite.

i dont think the noise will happen in neutral, if its the outer cv boot, then it more likely is jacked up. i got charged 90 to replace them, i had to do both.
