Going from MEVI fo 00VI worth it?

Didn't know whether to post in All Motor forum or this one so move if necessary mods.

I have a MEVI, and I can get an 00VI for $350 with upper/lowermanifold, fuel rail, injectors and TB. My main question is, would it be worth it to spend $350 to get more low/mid range power. Or would it not make sense to do it? Thanks for the help, if any.

the hood will close just fine with the 00VI, no issues with that. from reading all the other threads about the 00VI form people like krismax, the 00VI gives you the top end power the MEVI gives you, but does not sacrafice the low end...in other mords, 00VI > MEVI.

I went from the MEVI to the '00 VI and have never looked back. I wish I had never wasted my time with the MEVI. Unfortunately, at the time no one knew the '00 would work. The low end is awesome with the '00 VI along with the great top-end that the MEVI had.

The only problems I see with it are driveability related. It's my understanding that the EGR system has to be tossed aside which can lead to cold weather idle problems. BSwithTF would know more about what additional mods need to be done to make it work correctly.

i say for 350, i rather get the 00VI. Only other option is to get an ecu. Ecu is more but with the difference, i guess u have to decide if the extra hp is worth the difference.

Aftermarket ECU + MEVI vs 00VI

which has better power under the curve and with the difference in price (800-1000 vs 500-1000), which is better for the buck?

There are a few issues that have to be addressed when going to the 00VI. It is not a simple bolt on like the MEVI is.

1. If you want to retain your 4th gen lower IM (and injectors), then you have to turn the lower IM 180 deg in order to get the inner mounting holes to line up properly.

2. You will have to drill two holes in the 00VI for the outer mounting bolts.

3. You can use a 5th gen lower but then you also have to use the 5th gen fuel rail and injectors.

4. An adapter plate will have to be made to incorporate the 4th gen IACV and EGR. Look up what Krismax did.

There is more information in a recent thread in the All Motor forum.

I have looked in the All Motor forum, but I can't find it now, I may need to re-check. If I get it I will get the 5th gen lower, fuel rail and injectors. What would I make the adapter plate out of? Is the EGR system hard to remove?

Laylow1988: I like doing work on my car, and I believe I would enjoy this. Also, only a few of the chosen have the '00VI, I hope I become one of those. I also don't wanna wait a few months for my ecu.

Meccanoble: Do you know which one has more power under the curve?

Thanks,
Mooney

i don't believe there are any dynos where the only change was from MEVi to the '00VIM, or any dyno's of a VIM at all...

I am going on the 18th to get one. Unless you count me removing the EGR system, I went from MEVI to '00 VI as the only change.

My car makes 190whp at 2900RPM with the MEVI.

I don't see what the problem is.

There's a link to it in the stickies.

Aluminum is easy to work with.
