spoiler LEDs
spoiler LEDs
Hello,
I was installing rear speakers in my car and realized that the led strip light on my spolier is out. I tested the wire to the led light and it seems that there is power going through it. Now my question is:
are the led lights wired in series so if one goes out, all of them go out?
are there known problems with the spoiler led light?
if i need to buy a new one, where can i buy an oem version as well as the clear version?
Thanks so much,
gmax

first:
your spoiler's light has 35 LEDs which are divided into 5 groups of 7 LEDs each so if one bulb went bad in a group, only the other 6 will turn off (that's why you see some spoilers don't light up completly.
second:
go to this website and purchase a new light stripe and for 40 bucks (includes shipping) and replace it and remove your spoiler when you do it (it makes it alot easier).
Specifications:
15.5 inches (length with 4 tabs)
35 LED bulbs

for the 96 maxima there are no screws that i can see, could be wrong.
also where can I go to get OEM spoiler instead of a knock-off off of a website?
nextly if what you say is true rls81 and no lights are lighting up on the strip light, and the wire to the leds has power, what do you think could be wrong? Could the entire strip of lights be out?
Thanks

)A new OEM light is about $200. Get a cheapo one and forget about it.
The entire strip of lights can go out? Is this typical? Just wondering, because it was working perfectly and then all of a sudden the entire strip goes?
I guess what i am asking is how can i test that the led strip is truly gone?

the original one on my dads 96 just up and broke, no light at all. I have seen a few other local max's with the same thing. Its not that common but its tyipical for all to go out at once. Actually I have never seen a max with just a few LED's out. You can test each LED, resitor, and diode.....but have fun getting inside the lense. I had no luck.
ghettomax, try lighting it with a 9 volt batt. if it doesn't work then get a new light from that website. they have all kinds of different ones. just get the measurments of your light and no. of LEDs and how many plastic tabs it has and compare it with the ones they have. I spent about $20 on LEDs and resistors and couldn't get it to work after 4 hours of soldering. when I ordered that light, it was an exact copy of mine except it was brand new and came on the first time I tested it. that old one I had was all rusted and full of dust and crap. save time, money, effort, and yourself of getting pissed. get a NEW one.
I have a portion in the direct center of my spoiler light that went out. The rest of it works, so when it lights up it looks like I have 2 seperate LEDs. I want to replace it but I do not want to spend 40 US on it.
With these non-oem spoiler lights, how do you install them on our cars. are there are step by step instructions?
Do they just plug right in to the stock wiring or do you have to do any modifying to get it wired up?
