Steering wheel shakes when I brake
#1
I notice that when I brake from a high speeds (65+), my steering wheel shakes and the braking doesn't feel smooth.
It doesn't happen when braking at slow speeds.
Does this mean my rotors are warped?

what year?
Calvin,
what year is your Max btw. I had and occasionally have similar problems with mine. I have a 97 GLE with about 32k on it. I am not sure if it was the type of brake pads I had installed last year, but when I am going above 65+, it doesn't feel smooth at all braking...even worst a higher speeds. when did you develop this?
we ought to swap notes...I think it could be that my rotors were not cut after new pads were installed...
Brian
btw: tangent here--thanks for the link again to scottys. Hopefully, I'll run into you there in the SUmmer.

I could have swore I told the dealer to resurface them when I went in for my 75K service.
I have a 95 with 79K miles on it.
Actually, I've had this problem for a while now. A little over two months. Mostly when I drive my brother back to school in Stony Brook. There are a couple of roads that are straightaways and has traffic lights. But they're few and far in between and I can get over 65 on them.
And always willing to share about Scotty's. Me and my friends go out there a lot in the summer.

a lot of others
You know, guys...a lot of the 5th generation Max's also have the same problem with their braking when they are over 65. For some reason they too have the shaky feeling.
I am pretty sure in my case, I just need to have my rotors resurfaced...so I am just waiting to get new brake pads...but since the ones on my car are still alright, I'll just wait until I need them...

can you please elaborate?
Got_Rice,
It is ironic that you mentioned this to me about the steering rack bushings. To start off, my car has that problem with the braking and the vibration of the steering wheel. I took it to the dealer about 5 months ago to see what my little power steering leak was about, and he mentioned to me (without elaborating) that I needed a new PS rack because it was "loose." I am not sure if this "loose-ness" that he didn't further explained on meant the bushings were loose or the rack itself was loose?
Is there anyway to fix this problem, Phuong? That is other than getting a new PS rack which will cost me 1400 bucks. Of course, I told him no.
thank you,
Brian
