Headlights are pulsing

Now that it's winter and I've started using my heater, I've noticed that my headlights have started pulsing. It occurs both when the car is moving and when its idling and seems most severe when I have the heater and stereo on. Any ideas as to what this might be?

You're battery is not being charged corectly. Get the alternator and the battery checked out.

If you don't get it checked out make sure you have a road survival kit in the trunk in case it dies on you.

Voltage regulator is not steady. Your alternator needs to be replaced.

Yep, I'm right there with you Sterling. I stopped by Shuck's immediately after posting and had my battery and alt. checked. During the test my alternator suged to 15.2V but, according to the Shuck's employee conducting the test, my alternator and battery were OK.

Exactly what Tom said, bad voltage regulator, you shouldnt be pushing 15.2 volts... remember your running on a 12 volt system...

Dont feel bad, I'm changing my alternator tomorrow.

Gotcha, thanks for the help guys. Strangely my headlights have stopped pulsing and I'm thinking this is a good sign or a really bad sign. Either way, after the holidays I plan on buying a new alternator. I miss the days of DIY alternator repair tho.

if they tell you that the alternator is fine and the battery take the alternator out and have they test it in the shop it is probibly the diode...it is not that hard to change it just have to drop the a/c compressor and the belt tensioner about 1hr 1hr15 most
