Engine knock/Pinging problem

Hoping someone can help me with this.... I have a 95se that pings badly from about 3k RPM on up when under load. The knock sensor is definately junk, and I am in the midst of getting it replaced. That being said, shouldn't the ECU automatically revert to the "safety" engine timing? I have tried multiple octanes to see if it matters, but it even occurs with ultra94. Ran the codes and all I get is the Knock sensor fault. Is there something other that can cause this issue, or should I just try to replace the knock sensor and re-evaluate? Thanks in advance

Try different Gas..not octane but a totally different brand..

Put in some chevron Techron stuff in your gas tank as well

Carbon deposits in your combustion chamber can cause hot spots leading to pre-ignition.
I assume you are running a stock ecu.

Yes, it's a stock ECU. I've run at least 2 bottles of Techron through it as well. Is it possible by neglecting the KS problem for so long i have excessive carbon build-up that is triggering the pre-detonation?

that could be possible the mixes are correct and so more gas is getting burned, when you replace the KS, try running some seafoam or treatment like that, that will clean out the carbon deposits, that should help clear you problem
