99 clutch hose sweat out problems
99 clutch hose sweat out problems
I have a 99 SEL 5spd max.
About a month ago, I had to bleed the lines because air got in them. I thought it was just a fluke and though maybe it had just been a while since I had checked the fluid. I bled the lines, filled the resevior back up and everything was fine.
Well, last week, the resevior was low again. This time, I want ahead and just ordered a new slave cylinder and what I thought(and was told by NAPA) was the only presurized hose for the slave cylinder(it goes from the master to the slave.).
When the part finally came in(three days later) my bro and I tackled the job. It was not too difficult....just a little tough to break off the bolts from the slave cylinder. (we went ahead and took off all of the intake stuff so that it was easier to get to and work with.....plus, we had to do it at night, and it was easier to see then.). Come to find out, there are two hoses that go from the slave to master. There is one that connects to the slave and then a little resevior and then another that goes toward the master. The part that NAPA ordered for me was the second one that I just listed.
So, we just put the hose that they ordered for me(2nd one) on along with the new slave cylinder. Neither of those things are leaking....we checked multiple times.
Today, when I go to get in my car for work, I decide to check the fluid resevoir and sure enough....it was a little low. I added a little bit of fluid and went about my way. The clutch felt like the beginning stages of it getting air in it again.
I am wondering if any of you have had experience with this in the past? I need to know the part number for that other hose.
I don't want to have to order it from the dealership, but if NAPA doesn't have it, that is pretty much the only other choice I have. I just know they will charge me like $30 for a hose that should cost like $10.
1. What is the part number?
2. Know anything about what I am talking about?
3. Anywhere else I could get this part?
4. Do you think it is a sweat out problem as they call it on the write up in the how to's?
5. Is it the Master Cylinder?(I don't think so, based on everything I have read, but I could be mistaken)
Please help and sorry for the lengthiness.

part numbers
The hose that comes directly off the slave is 30651+A. I think it's the one you're talking about (got the little box attached to it). That's the one that was leaking for me... $40 from the local dealer. I don't know if anyone else sells it.
I just tried to type that number in jerryromenissan's search and nothing came back. I think that number I gave you is either preceeded or apended by another number. Anyway, according to the piping diagram that nissan faxed me a while ago, here's the part number list along the path.
Slave: SEC306
1st hose from slave (with little metal box): 30651+A
2nd hose (connects to metal piping): 30651
1st metal piping:30650
and so on.

Thanks, I think that is what I was looking for.
When you replaced it, what were your symptoms?
Did the resevoir leak down slowly?
Was the fluid sweating out of the hose, rather than leaking out of a gasket or connector point?

It slowly leaked for about 2 months. then it all of a sudden got worse... to the point where if I had the clutch fully depressed for more than 4 seconds I would lose pressure and the pedal would stick to the floor. fluid res would be from max to min in about 10 shifts.
The hose was leaking where the rubber part meets the brass fitting... on the slave side.

I will look there, Jeff.
Thanks.
I wonder how much that is? Probably like $60+?
Working car=Priceless. ha ha
BTW, anyone, what is the code we can put into the online order form for Jerry Rome Nissan to get Maxima.org discount? I need to order some plugs and some coils soon.....and possibly Master cylinder and hose now. ha ha
Thanks.

There is something up on their site saying that they are temporarily not able to do online orders. What is up with that?
I put in the "maxima" becuase I knew the part number, but still no discount.
Just wondering. Maybe somewhere else is better?

I've gotten a couple things from www.nissanparts.cc . Prices are generally lower than jerry rome but it sometimes take a couple days to ship.
Check out this site for a visual how-to: http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/802
The sysmptoms I encountered were losing fluid and a soft clutch (hard to get in gear).
I've had good luck ordering from Jerry Rome and Conicelli in the past. Conicelli was the cheapest on the clutch hose at the time, I think I paid around $29 (free shipping).
Here's a link to Conicilli's website: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...95&catalogid=1 looks like it's still listed at $29.52 which was much better than my local dealers who wanted $45.

Yeah, the local stealers are wanting that around here too.
All that is left to replace is that hose(the expensive one) and the Master Cylinder.
Thanks for the links.
That motorvate.ca site is what I used to do the slave cylinder replacement.
Did replacing that other hose fix your loss of fluid and soft clutch?
Thanks again.

Laziness and a lack of time is a lethal combo. ha ha
I still have to keep an eye on my clutch fluid resevior. It leaks slowly....seemingly more in colder weather. I have just not had time to get back under there and replace that other hose. I hope to be able to do that sometime.
For now, it will not kill me to put in a little fluid every once in a while.
