Got ECU Code 1005 but can't clear it

Code 1005 is for a EGRC solenoid valve. I replaced it, cleared the CEL, drove for a few miles and the CEL came back with the same code. Don't know what else it could be.

Went to Nissan and they were absolutely worthless. The service advisor answered me with, "I'm not a tech." Thanks buddy, great customer service skills there. When I asked to speak to a tech he responded with, "My technicians like to get paid for their time, a minimum of one hour's labor or $85." They wanted to charge me $85 for asking them one simple question, not to turn a single screwdriver or to even look under my hood, just to ask a very specific, focused question.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

You did clear the code. It just came back because the part is broken. What do you mean you don't know what it is? The problem is the egrc solenoid. I don't know anything about it, but that's your problem right there. No reason to look for something else.

The EGRC valve relies on vaccuum to work.

Check the vaccuum lines that it uses to function for leaks or clogs from end to end.

Huh? He knows what his problem is. He's already changed the EGRC solenoid. Are you saying his replacement is defective? Did I miss something here...I think he was pretty clear.

Now whether or not the EGRC solenoid is receiving the proper vacuum to function correctly is another story. This may have been the problem to begin with.

I also get 1005 and I am going to check if vacuum is present before I replace it. I may just have to clean/replace the vacuum hoses...

You're right. I thought he was saying he just cleared to code and it came back and he didn't know why. I must have misread it. I've been doing that alot in the last few days . I guess need to slow down a little .

Sorry for acting like you were a retard man (you would have been if you said what I thought you did). I guess I am though .

Hey Wayman...

Is your 1005 a ghost code? Meaning it does not actually turn the CIL on? I'm curious because my 1005 doesn't trip the CIL.

The factory service manual only mentions testing the EGRC solenoid harness for voltage and the solenoid itself for continuity before replacing. This troubleshooting procedure applies to the 1005 code, of course. There is no mention of any other troubleshooting for 1005- not even vaccum. Strange but I think the code is only recorded when improper voltage is dedected through the solenoid. At least that's is what I get from it...

So, if this is the case and your solenoid is new, check for voltage at the harness.
