HID H3's in the fogs?

I just did a mod on a fellow org members 5th gen where we installed H3 HID's in his fog lights. I'd like to know if this can be done for us 4th gens and if so what kits are out there. The kit I used for the 5th gen fogs was made by X-Tech. The install was pretty straight forward, some light modifications to the housings were needed, other then that it was plug and play. The beam pattern looks perfect. This would be an ideal way to put more light down on the road for my 4th gen, without changing the headlights over to HID projectors.

Any info is appreciated.

i think all you need is an H3 HID kit, ive seen pics of HID in fogs so i know it can be done, i dont think it would be any harder than HID's in the headlights...

Should be just about the same procedure as on the 5th gen, they both take h3 style bulbs so the exact same kit would fit your car.

I just did this MOD myself. There is some dremeling, cutting and crimping involved in the install. Very easy but not plug n play. Check out my recent post for comments and pics.

hey, i put H3 8000K in my fogs....installation is pretty simple and there is plenty of room to mount the ballasts down there, the only thing you gotta worry about is on our 99's we have a metal reflective shield down there

I ended up just ripping mine out with some needle nose pliars, but its definitely the most difficult step to the mod....you can also just use a drill bit and put a hole in the end of it; but i didn't feel safe with it like that since it was still touching the bulb......when you get down to doing this lemme know and i can help you out all you need

here's some pics, i don't even need HIDs in my headlights cuz the fogs do the trick:

Manbean, thanks that thread you posted was just what I was looking for. The shield in the 5th gen fogs was in the way as well. Just a little push and it went inwards just enough for the bulbs to clear. The beam pattern was not bothered by moving that shield ever so slightly forward. I was afraid that the 4th gen fogs shield will have to be removed or completely distorted to install the H3 HID's. That will totally mess up the beam pattern and give a spot light output on the road rather then the nice cut off line I'm looking for. Being the fogs are down low I'm sure they don't blind anybody but I really want that cut off line to be pronounced as the 5th gen fog conversion was.

Guess I'm still on the hunt for projectors.......

Thanks guys!

the cut off for our 4th gens isn't the same as it is for the 5th gens.......the entire shape of the housing isn't even the same

and when you get up in there, that shield is pretty securely put in there......if you don't want metal on bulb contact you gotta rip it out

I still have my shields in place. What I ended up doing was creating about a 1" medal spacer so the HID bulb would be able to be flush with a flat surface. It now doesn't even come close to hitting the shield and cutoff is uneffected. I used a old burned out H3 PIAA bulb as a template to make the spacer. IMHO, the lighting with the HID fogs is vastly improved over halogens bulbs. I can't imagine going back to them now that I have seen the improvement they have given. I'm now slowly piecing together parts to retrofit some spare headlights with projectors to complete my lighting setup but I'm in no hurry since the 9007 upgrade is doing its job.
