Haven't read all of the posts, but what about Ins Co? 2 years ago, my then 18 YO son took his mother's '94 GS-R to college on a snowy day, was driving too fast and slid the drivers side into the curb (90 degree right hand turn) at probably 30MPH. Total cost to repair was $7G, and the body wasn't touched! Just the wheels, axles, suspension, etc.

So $900 isn't too bad if you learn from it. Then when you get really good at it, you'll find it's way cheaper to learn from other's mistakes, LOL. I still haven't mastered that one (yet?).

i know it sux. last year when i got my car after a couple of weeks i fawked it BIG TIME! i was stupid and burnt up the tranny. i was peeling out in the snow like a *******. it was in the winter time and i had no car. i worked my *** of to get the cash for a new tranny. my dad didnt care about helping me because it wasnt his car so he prolonged the fixing of it. after that i learned my lesson. you dont realize how valuable and fortunate you are until you loose a car or a life. i love my maxima and yet i still do stupid things, but now i can atleast control it and be more responsible. btw i sent you a pm if you want more indept explanations of taking off the spindle etc. pm me

The axle and CV boot look fine, don't replace them. As long as the boot is not torn open, leave the axle alone. You should however, replace the hub and bearing. The bearing most likely has a flat spot from the impact and will probably become noisey in the near future.

Don't play in the snow with your car, it's not worth it.

This is what makes you a flamed newb. You expect kindness and respect for doing donuts on the open road (which could have consequently injured others or yourself). Then you ask for help in repairs, but do not follow the necessary links. Then you get mad and have an emotional breakdown because others are not holding your hand through this.

Post count has nothing to do with this. Age and time on the org do not have anything to do with this. Its the content of your post, and how you chose to go about it.

I dont think that much stuff can be broken, how fast were you going?

I hit a curb once to avoid hiting a car, the shop told me it was about $2000 of damage, i had a friend look at it and all i needed was a new tie rod and lower control arm, parts costed me 300 and i did the work myslelf.

If you decide to do this again, find a big open parking lot.

the right front wheel of my 89 prelude pretty much "fell off" a few weeks ago as i made a left turn (no pothole). damage looked 10X worse than yours, and all that needed replacement was the two ball joints and outer tie rod ~ $60 sihpped.

search the necessary parts on ebay, have them do expedited shipping, pay some mechanic about 2 hours of labor. u shouldn't be getting charged 900 for this

there's nothing wrong with drifting a max in the snow, if you know what you're doing. i love to go and drift my max, but i only do it in places where i have room to slide if i screw up, like the Caesar's Bay parking lot, huge area, paved allright, and a few sharp WIDE corners, and don't start drifting at 50, keep the speed low until you get the hang of it.

point is: there's nothing wrong with drifting in the snow, you just have to be smart and responsible about it.

good thing you and your friend walked away with minor damage, it could have been much worse.

now go fix your car and stop whining about it.

check out a junk yard, control arms and etc. can be picked up for very little $$$ and change the bushings in the process. energy suspention in the GD forum

and about the flaming: next time you post a thread along the lines of <i wrecked my max because i was driving with my head up my a$$> watch what will happen -- you brought it on yourself.

yes drifting in the snow is addicting. i was stupid tho and did in on my off period so i didnt bother finding a big open parking lot cuz i didnt have the time. next time it snows i will know better. i am getting it fixed soon by my friend and im gettin all new parts so it shouldnt cost 2 much.

You said you have the tools so I'd look around and see if I could find a write up for what needs to be done also get a haynes and/or chilton manual for the car for extra reference, also the FSM (pm me if you need it) and dedicate a weekend to doing it, or if you think you can do it a night after work or if you dont have work, spend a good chunk of hours getting the max back.

My suggestion is get a RWD car and go to very open parking lots, if you still feel the bug to go sideways. Hmmmm . . . s15

Who hasn't drifted in the snow? Sure I've done it, but I've made sure that I've had enough room and that I was not going to fast in order to NOT TO CRASH INTO ANYTHING.

I have read through the posts. This donut doing donuts is even asking for help on where to find details that are posted throughout this forum and online. So many resources out there and some people lack self initiative and self sufficiency. What is it with people? Too lazy to read...no wonder our high school graduates lag behind other nations high schools.

I think njmaxseltd is on the money here. The axles easily have the range of movement shown in those pictures. The real damage is done elsewhere.

BTW, whenever I've posted a direct specific question on here, everyone helps out. The org is a great place that has saved me thousands of dollars. So stick to the facts. If you said:

"I damaged the front right of my car, here's the pics, here's my quote for repairs, what do you think" you'd have saved yourself some pain.

Just a little note to exit and those thinking that he was unfairly flamed. The guy posted that he had the tools and the experience to fix this problem with his car, yet he kept posting and asking about getting help to get it done. I can probably safely say that he has done no more than maybe an oil change and tire change, nevertheless, he shouldn't get his panties in a bunch because of an internet forum, what would happen in real life? Some people need THICKER skin, its not that serious.

Just pay the man and get your car back. That's what I'd do. Easiest thing to do. No win situation here.
