Temp gauge acting funny...

For the past 4 months my temperature gauge has been acting funny. It will take a long time for it to get warm and when if it ever does get into the warm section, when I drive at highway speeds, it will go straight down to cold. Once, I get back to idling, the temp gauge needle will go back to warm. I have had the temperature sensor replaced, and the wiring has been checked. Anyone have any ideas? I have a '95 GXE. Thanks.

might want to think about changing your thermostat. i work at a shop and a customer came in yesterday having the same problem, went off and changed his thermostat and it did the job. just my 2 cents

Sounds like the gauge itself is going bad... my RPM gauge went bad a while back and wouldnt register anything under 2000 rpms.. its the lowest it would go. Replace it, you dont have to buy the entire cluster... the temp one comes off

Try changing ur thermostat. same thing was happening to me. the car would be warm, but as i drove the temp needle would drop. after i changed my thermostat the temp is now normal. if i remember correctly, all parts cost me around 30-40$ and only took me 20 min.

YellowOne, shmad: thermostat was determined not to be the culprit, but will keep that in mind if nothing else works (my thought was that it could be the thermostat)

Ant96GLE: I was concerned that could be the problem, but I am relieved to hear that the temp sensor is a separate part.

Thanks guys for your input.
