Has anyone had a problem with the hood staying shut? Ever since I got this car (used), the hood will suddenly pop open while driving at the usual freeway speeds. At one point, I thought the latch mechanisms probably needed some lubing but I have sprayed WD40 and even those Silicon Sprays. The hood would stay shut for a while, 1 or 2 months. Then the problem would come back again. So I'm thinking, maybe I should get those hood pins to secure the hood down. The thing is that usually CF hoods use those pins for obvious reason. Would my car look stupid (for lack of a better word) if I was to get them for my stock hood? I'm not doing this just for looks, I'm just tired of pulling off to the fwy shoulder everytime the damn hood pops open on me. It would be my bad luck one day if this happens while I'm driving really fast on the freeway and the hood ends up flapping backwards and shattering my windshield.

i think you might get a ricer tag with hoodpins on an oem hood. why don't you replace the latch mechanism instead? it would probably be cheaper/easier...
Well, I inspected the whole thing and there seems to be nothing internally that could be adjusted. I think the internals are binding so much probably because of whether and aging that any chemicals aren't doing much to help it. The only thing I can see is that I can adjust the whole mechanism up or down which determines how high or low the hood closes. I just called a wrecking yard and a used hood latch assembly is $45.
I might try to take the car to a body shop and see if they know any hood tricks.

did you take a look at the cable? on my old civic the wire was bound up inside of the sheath. i'm talking about the cable that attaches to the hood release under the dash. it should feel smooth, and if it's binding at all or if it is tough to pull you may have to replace the cable.. just a thought
You might be on to something there. It is tough to pull the cable and after it is pulled the hood doesn't pop up like on other cars. Its like there's no tension or something. The cable might be the problem. How the hell do you replace those cables being that it runs from the front of the car all the way to the driverside kick area?

I'm not very fond of drilling holes into the hood. Besides, that can start rusting in time. Plus the ricer factor.

And I opened this thread to get ideas that I might have not thought of yet before I actually decide to drill those holes and install the hood pins.
