transmission/clutch problem?

96 gxe 5speed
Last night i returned home from a normal night of driving. This morning when i went to go leave for work i started the engine and tried to shift into reverse but i couldn't. It is like the stick is frozen and wont go into any position. the clutch pedal feels ok and when i turn the engine off i can actually shift(dunno if that matter) Does anyone know what would cause it to freeze up like that whenever the engine is on?

im scurrred $$$ ?

I had this happen to me last winter. However, it would only happen on really cold days (below 30 degrees) when I leave it outside over night. I would let the car warm up for a few minutes and then that sticky feeling of the shifter would slowly diminish.

Did you let the car warm up a few minutes or did you just start it and try to shift right away? What's the weather like by you?

Sounds like the clutch. How many miles on your clutch?

in terms of the shifting, I would check out the linkage eleminate that factor and thenI would check out the clutch that seems like the culprite of the problem. Maybe the throw out bearing could be at fault that is known to prevent going into gear.

since your pedal feels fine I would assume your fluids are at the proper level.

If you can, pull off the tranny and inspect to see if you see anything wrong, if not then I'd take it to a tranny shop and get them to check it out.
