96 maxima problem

i was wondering if anyone knows what could possibly be wrong with my car: yesterday i was driving and my battery and brake light came on. Later my lights in the car got dim and everytime i press on the gas i slowed down. then all my warning lights in the dash went on and i stalled, and couldnt start the car anymore. Does anyone know what this could be?? I've heard it was the alternator??

That happens to my car also, I have a 95 max and when you start it up and drive it starts bogging as you step on the gas and then it just stalls. I dont think its the altenator

Since it died while you were running then we can rule out the battery since you don't need it once the car is running.

Take the alternator out and get it tested at Advance Auto Parts (or some place like that). If you give them the old alternator they usually give you like $50-60 off the price of the new/rebuilt one.

Normally I would guess that it's some sort of air flow problem, but when you throw the lights dimming into the mixture it starts to sound more like the alternator. Could be either/or depending on what's happening.

...Or I could be a completely incorrect nincompoop.

its your alternator, same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. since your alternator is dead, as you drive around the car just drains the battery and then stalls out. dont listen to someone who says your car doesnt use the battery once its started. the alternator does not connect to the electric parts of the car. the alternator connects to the battery and charges it and the electric components of the car still run off the battery, if the alternator is not charging the battery then the car will use the battery until its dead. if you need to take your car to a shop to get your alternator replaced, dont waste your money towing it. swap in a battery with a full charge and drive it there. your car will run for about 30-60 minutes before it dies again.

Silly idea, make sure the serpentine belt is still there before replacing the alternator
