Question regarding auto tranny code procedure...

After searching and trying the procedure for pulling tranny codes, I'm stuck with nothing and I have questions on the procedure...
95-97
1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temp with O/D off.
2. Turn ignition swith to off postiton wait 5 sec.
3. Turn ignition switch to the ACC position.
4. Put O/D to ON.
5. Move shifter to P, turn ignition on but don't start engine.
6. The OD light should come on for about 2 secs.
a. if light does not come on somthing is wrong with the trans. computer.
b. if light comes on proceed to no 7.
7. Turn ignigton key to off.
8. Turn ignition key to on, don't start engnie.
9. Move shift lever to D, trun ignition to off.
10. Put O/D switch to off position.
11. Turn ignition off.
12. Put O/D to off, turn ignition ON wait 2sec and move shifter to the 2 position.
13. Put O/D to on, move shifter to 1 position.
14. Put O/D to off, depress accelerator all the way to floor and release.
15. The computer is now in output mode and will start displaying the codes

Step 9 says to turn off ignition, step 11 says to turn off ignition but there's no "turn ignition on" between the two steps. Ditto step 10 with turning OD switch to off and step 12 with turning it off...again where's the "turn it on" supposed to go? Given the exacting procedure for pulling to codes, could someone who's done this verify what's wrong with the sticky and where 2 missing steps should go?

Bump.

Some help would really be nice please...this could be a really cheap fix or something that'll cost hundreds but I can't do jack if the procedure for checking the codes isn't accurate.

Does your overdrive light flash when you start the car. That's how I knew I had a problem. What's the transmission doing is it acting stupid or something. I just pulled my tranny codes from the cel and resolved it that way.

Yep...getting 16 blinks at start up, hard shifts with all gears, check engine light on continuously. I tried pulling them thru the ECU but nothing happened (and I've pulled codes off there before). Searching yielded the pulling codes procedure but as it's warmer out today, I should be able to fiddle more.

Ok say your saying it shifts like a ton of bricks. That's what mine did I am pretty sure your dropping resistor is gone. It's a 40 dollar dealer part BTW what codes are you getting. So what does that mean that maybe it's up to 30 degrees or something forget that.

this procedure has a flow somwhere , i just don't have time to look for errors now. You need to go to Autozone and buy Hayens repair manual for $14.99 and all the info will be there.

Now I'm starting to get somewhere...ECU spitting out 1205...I think the search function is worth the $20 donation.

1205 is your line pressure solenoid inside the tranny , but before you do anything - whip out your ohmmeter and test your Dropping resistor - it should read ~ 12 ohms , if not replace it with new one from dealership $40.

You can locate the resistor behind the air box intake , its mounted to the driver side strut tower with two bolts.

good luck, keep us updated

Like I said before, just change the dropping resistor for $40 and reset cel and drive. These cars are notorious for bad dropping resistors.
