Engine coolant temperature sensor

I just got 0103 last night and it says its my engine coolant temp sensor. Now what does that mean I read the sticky "codes defined" but I'm a girl and it still really makes no sense to me. I want to know if it is ok to drive on for a while, how much it will cost me to fix and what exactly it does. Also my lights in the back are not working when you turn the car lights on. The brake lights, signal and reverse lights work. Is it common for both lights to go out at same time or what? Help!

The coolant temp sensor is an easy fix and cheap it's like $25. Just get 1 and put it in you don't even have to drain coolant. It is on the top by the front head under the air inlet There is 2 sensors right next to each other you'll find it just gotta look for a few min. Some people get crappy driveability, and some don't but you can still drive it for the most part. Check your fuses for your tail lights maybe thats it.

Yeah I have had really bad drivabillity...I know that this sensor isnt the one that runs to the gage in the car. This place will install it for 80 bucks. I know I'm getting ripped off now but I dont know how to install a whole lot in my car. Where can I check the fuse for the tail lights? I know where the fuse box in the car is but which one could it be. I think I might have blown a fuse because last night before I noticed the tail lights out my lights to the heater were flickering on and off a bit then stopped.

The cover over the fuse box has the locations of all fuses. IIRC there are some relays for the tail lamps under the hood too. They're in black boxes on either side of the engine bay and the covers say what each one is. It has things like headlights and fogs...and a bunch of other things.

Why don't you buy the coolant sensor and just have a friend, or neighbor, or brother just put the coolant sensor in. It's so easy just one plug and just unscrew it with a ratchet and put the new 1 in and plug it back in. All the fuses are marked on the backside of the fuse cover. Every once and a while you'll get lucky like that and hopefully it's just a fuse.

Okay now with my tail lights...both went out and my lights to the heater I noticed were flickering and then later I noticed my tail lights were not working. Is that a fuse or another thing I heard is that my dimmer switch could have gone bad...or is it common for the bulbs to go out at the same time?

There are two coolant temp sensors. The $8 one is for the gauge, the $25 one is for the ECU.

Yeah I know the one that is bad on mine is the ecu one. And its true what they say when that goes bad your car really does drive rough and crappy. Hopefully when they replace it today, that will all go away

When you move the dimmer switch from brighter to dimmer do the heater lights or other dash lights flicker at all?
