best way to rid of smoke odor?

Greetings,

I let my cousin borrow my max for about 3 weeks or so and he's a smoker. I told him not to smoke in it but when I got it back it smelled like smoke. What can I do to get rid of the smell faster? I leave the windows down to sort of air it out but the smell is kind stuck or impregnated for lack of a better word.

Any tips or thoughs would be appreciated.

thanks. , by the way, has anyone ordered from nissan-accessories.com before? it is now called newnissanparts.com. I ordered a couple of things but some thigns on the webpage got me worried a little bit.

Febreeze, and run the vents on recirculate when you air it out with the windows down. It works better because you draw more fresh air through the vent system.

Go punch your cousin!

I also hear storing charcoal in the car can get rid of the smell somewhat.

GO to Wal-Mart and buy Ozonium in the car section. It neutralizes the air in the car. I used to use it when folks didn't want the new car smell and I worked at a dealership. You spray it in all the vents, even defrost. Let the car run for a good while on high speed. Also, put dryer sheets under the seats and some baking powder on a plate under the seat. Should smell neutral in about a week.

Febreeze .. even though nobody smokes in my cars, I spray some the next day to freshen up the inside

Still, nobody is allowed to smoke in my Max or GC, my friends know better

As a smoker, I don't really like the smell of smoke in my car either....so some nights I leave all the windows cracked. That usually helps out alot. I don't smell the odor that much in the morning.

as mentioned above, find a neutralizer at the store. i work at a car rental place and when they come back smelling like smoke, we use that in the vents, turn on the heat full blast and it gets rid of it pretty well. also after that, wipe down the windows and just around the dash and get it all nice and clean...then the car should smell better.

Make your cousin pay to have your car detailed and/or the products you buy to get rid of the smell.

Theres this stuff I bought at Target a while back in the car isle. It is a liquid that you pour in you windshield wiper fluid. And when you spray your fluid on the windshield the smell actually comes out the vents for a while. Whenever you want it to smell stronger you just spray more windshield fluid on..then like magic the smell starts comin outta your vents...its a cool way to clean your vents from tha poo poo smell

Since you are in Texas, I would suggest open all windows and sunroof on a sunny day. The sun light will help you a bit. It took some of the foul smell I had in my car.

Thanks for all the input, I went out and bought that Ozium stuff from walmart, it was only like 5 bucks. Kinger, that liquid stuff you talk about sounds pretty interesting. I'm gonna swing by target.
(I hope you're not pulling my chain)

just wait it out and it will go away. as a smoker, when i pick my parents up, i just spray in my seat cleaner, that has an odor eliminator, and they dont notice anything even if i smoked an hour before.

what i do is get a bottle of babypowder and keep on squeezing it so the scent can over take the smell and let it just float around then do the same process again , You will have to wipe down you center console or radio area if you squeeze too much out. the next day your car smells like babypowder.
