Help - Blue Smoke!

Ok, This isn't on my car, but on a friend's car. When a car blows blue smoke that means it's burning oil which means could mean a few things...

Blown head gasket?
Cracked Piston?
Anything else?

Anyone ever heard of a plug not firing to be causing that type of problem? Also gas is sputtering out of the tail pipe in small proportions. Any ideas??
