need some wiring/stereo insight

my stereo unit (stock) died, so i bought a new stereo (non stock) with the kit and wiring harness, connected everything. now when i drive and i press on gas i hear like a whistling noise whenever the stereo is on (am,fm, and cd). what did i do wrong? i read all the diagrams and made sure they all matched up as specified. also, there was a wire for power antenna and i connected that wire too. there was also 2 other connections for the amp or something which i left out (it looked like a plug in fork at the end and not regular wire). any help is appreciated with this issue as i am not electrically inclined.

im sorry to hear about that, and i wish i could help but i just have a question. In my 95 behind where the stereo was before i took it out there is a black wire screwed straight into a peice of metal frame thing. The other end was loose but im curious if you know what that goes to? a grounding wire?

what the color of the wire with the "fork"? you also might want to post this in the audio section. might get better help there. ived one plenty of installs and really have never ran into engine noise problems. just check your wiring again and make sure its connected right.

the noise is because you arent grounded. take that black wire and connect it to something metal, and not painted metal, has to be exposed for it to properly ground

color is one yellow and one red (it looks like the tip of headphones... has to plug into something)

actually i think it is grounded since i connected the black wire to black wire from the original wiring. i dont think this is the issue.

its some cheap stereo i got from pepboys they had last unit on there. spent 30$ on it, 48$ on wiring harnass and kit from audio store. what is the chasis, if u dont mind me asking? it has pretty nice display though, and the face comes off (well in my case it wont since the stock stereo cover wont let the face out, had to drill few holes in brackets to fit it in there)

chasis is the car itself, find something metal and connect it

no, 30$ for stereo, 20$ for kit that hides the extra slot, 15$ for harnass, 10$ for antena adaptor.

I used the ground wire off of the stock harness since that ground is probably the best possible ground done while the car was being assembled. I have no noise whatsoever. I have installed aftermarket systems in many cars and have used the OEM ground wire and never had noises of any sorts. Now if for any reason that ground wire is bad, which can happen but probably very rare, then choosing an alternate ground ie: any bare (unpainted) metal part of the car is suitable.

That sounds like the same type of noise you'd get from an external amp that is ground-looped or bad RCA cables. The way to fix that would be to shorten the ground wire down to 1 ft" and ground it to the nearest bare metal you can find. Now with a headunit, I'm not sure how to fix that because the internal amp circuit is picking up some noise. Might be a bad circuit altogether.

Circuit City, Walmart, Best Buy. They all have great head units for low prices. Hit those places up and spend your cash-o-lah.

You should PM Pearl96Max, he'll give you a rocking deal and he's an internet dealer for Pioneer! Sounds like a pretty honest guy. Beware of many here, though, who are selling items thru here. Some of them are in business of screwing people over and some are rationally honest to some and not to others. Do your research before anything.

Why are you going cheap on some unknown brand through Pepboys? Remember, you get what you pay for...go to Circuit City, Best Buy and purchase a decent head unit...if you going through the trouble then spend the money...why upgrade with a half baked unit.

The ground from the nissan plug in the dash ought to line up with the nissan harness adapter (from the store) which ought to line up with the stereo harness ground wire...and when the HU unit itself is screwed into the metal console chassis (most HU line up the nissan console holes...no need for drilling)...the unit will ground into the nissan chassis when everything is screwed back into place.

By the way...is your system Bose or Non-Bose?

Just my O2

okay i just came back from my 2 day celebration. i went friday early on to etronics.com store location (located in nyc), and got myself a kenwood stereo unit for 85$ (saw some older brand of this in bestbuy for 150$), bought it for 85$. and i must say i m lovin it so far. i wired my antenna wrong or something for some reason since my antenna doesnt come up (dont rush electrical job if you dont have the time), nontheless the radio works as good without antenna as it does with it. no more weird noises. it has very nice display too. the model of this kenwood unit is kdc-205. at first i bought and realized the moron in store gave me the wrong unit half way when i was going home. anyways, i m going to return that crap i bought at pepboys tomorrow.
happy new year to you all.
