loud noise from front, help!?!?

i just got my y pipe installed today, and about 2-3 hours after i got it all on and done, i have a VERY loud "clunk" that comes from the passenger side front. it only happens when i come from a stop and accelerate, at a fairly decent amount. it sounds like something is getting caught in the wheel, but from out side you cant hear anything, only in the car. it doesnt do it any other time but when i accelerate from a stop. i have no idea what it is and it just started today after i got my y pipe on, is it the y pipe hitting something or is it something in the drivetrain? i have LSD tranny so i dont know if that helps. i also rotated my tires today when i had the car up on the lift. i dont know of what it could be but i hope its nothing serious. it is quite loud and just sounds like something is getting caught in the wheel or something, but you cant hear it from outside. please help ASAP, i have it inline to go to the mechanic tomorrow to get checked out but id like to have peace of mind at least haveing an idea of what is wrong, thanks for the help.

I've heard that when you get a y pipe put on it might bang around when driving, or accelerating in your condition, I've heard having hangers welded on the to y pipe has solved the banging.

i hope its some thing like that, something simple, but i dont know, it sounds like a peice from the fender or under carraige is stuck in the wheel. it doesnt sound like its comeing from the y pipe region.....

Is it a warpspeed? If so read this...http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=310324. That might help hold it in place. I would bet it's the y-pipe hitting the cross member thing that goes under the engine.

I still have the stock Y pipe but seem to have the same symptoms. Whenever I give it gas or slow down, anything that would torque the engine, the car makes a loud clanging noise. It almost sounds like motor mounts but I just replaced all of them......
Mine is also from the passenger side front. I just replaced a cv joint though, maybe that has something to do with it. Keep us up on this if you find the problem. Thanks

so you still have it even though you fixed the motor mounts and cv joint?

yeah. I cant figure out what it is and its really startin to get to me. Mainly only happens when you torque the engine pretty hard, like first second or third, rare in higher gears like fourth and fifth.

mine only happens when i take off kinda hard, not fast, but normal for me. if i take off realllll slow like a granny, it doesnt do it. and it only does it at that very low speed, like 5-6 mph.......

hmm mine doesnt really discriminate between slow and fast starts. Like I said its something to do with torqueing the engine. If i shift real slow and smooth there is no noise. But if I shift hard or just not smooth it does it. We may be talking about the same thing or not but I thought if someone had this problem that would be pretty nice.

I have this same problem. It only happens during 1st gear while accelerating slowly kinda slipping the clutch. sounds like rubber against rubber or metal and is very auditible and causes vibration in the clutch pedal and shifter. If you find out please let us know!!!! I have a stock ypipe on a 98GXE w/100k.

People have had that too, I just thought that might fix that problem too. I don't know if you saw the two pipes, but the stock one has a set of brackets (don't know what else to call 'em) that the wsp does not. You could also probably get an exhaust shop to put the actual brackets on (instead of the ghetto solution DaveB had). I think the one that did my custom cat-back did it without me even asking even though he didn't put on the y-pipe. I wasn't really looking at it so I'm not sure, but thinking back I think I noticed that.

probably will, looks like someone else has my luck BTW My flex pipe is almost completely destroyed. Is there something in that, that could clang together when the engine moves?

You might want to check the ball joints. Easiest way is putting the car on jack stands, grab the front wheel at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions and try to wiggle as hard as you can.
Hope it helps.
