soft cluth pedal

Last night my car started to have a soft clutch pedal. It has resistance at the beginning but then turns soft and goes pretty easily to the floor. It comes back up and engages the clutch just fine. I think that it is the master cylinder since it has never been replaced and I think I have ruled out the slave since it is fairly new and the clutch comes up just fine. The hoses on the slave have also been replaced recently. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. Am I wrong in my diagnosis? BTW, the resevoir is full.

soft pedal?

could be air in the lines. have you tried re-bleeding them? I'd try that first... look for any possible signs of leaks on the firewall or by the motor mount where the two hoses are joined with the banjo fitting.

you say the lines themselves have been replaced? Could be that the banjo fitting wasn't tightend enough or the copper gasket wasn't replaced when the hoses were replaced. Course, could just be a hose leak.

Just my 2 cents.

I had the same problem only I'm a moron and never checked the fluid in the reservoir. There was none A quick bleed fixed the problem. Try bleeding yours. The bleeder is on the driver side of the car mounted to the strut tower. Good luck.

as a quick note to Dagger's... There is another bleeder valve on the slave cylinder which is mounted to the clutch housing. May need to bleed both valves off to get all the air out.

Your on the right track. Its either the master, slave, a leak (perhaps small) in the system letting air in, or worse of all your clutch could be going. Depends on milage on your clutch...

Now i didnt know there was another bleeder, my pedal is still a little soft but it works now. It was so bad before that I could barely get it in gear. I may try bleeding that one too. Thanks for the info m8.

there are 2 places you need to bleed for the clutch, a low point which usually doesnt have a lot of air in it but still can have come, and a high point where usually most of the air would be found.

bleed the lower then the higher, should stiffen the clutch pedal up, I need to do mine, just gotta find someone to help me, wish there was good "speed" bleeders for clutches.
