went to auto zone to see what was up because my cel came on came up with code p0161 ,it says malfunction in heater circuit for oxygen sensor2 in bank 2.....any help on this one??

 

sounds like your o2 sensor is bad

I just got this code coming up on my 99.

I just had the O2 sensor replaced for a P0160(No data from sensor).

Could this be a wiring issue? If so why two diff codes? Could they have put on a bad sensor?

 

Bad sensor, had that one. The O2's actually heat themselves up to perform better. The heating part goes bad therefore u must replace it.

 

So if the sensor was purchased and installed by the shop, they are liable to replace it. Correct?

I will call them tomorrow.

 

Could be a different sensor. Make sure and verify that both codes (160 and 161) point at that sensor that you had replaced.

 

Yup, both codes (the 160 that was fixed by the replacement) and now the 161 both refer to sensor 2/2(sensor 2 bank 2).

 

Hate to bump this but,

I got code P0161 yesterday, that code reads Bank 2 Sensor 2 which would lead you to believe that it is my 02 simulator. Since my inspection is due at the end of the month I ordered one (dual output) sim today from o2simulators.com.

When I initially installed the sim 3 years ago I wired it near the top of the engine to keep away from dirt. Yet I have noticed that the sim is still lighting up intermittently as it always has? The wiring seems fine at a glance to me.

My question is has anyone here had their 02 sim seem bad yet still light up as always?

* Considering I got 3 years out of it, I’d say I got my moneys worth since longevity isn’t their strong suit.

 

which color plug is the p0161? i suppose thats the secondary o2 sensor?
