Light Problems

96 Maxima
Headlights only work when set for high beams, tail lights ok, but brake lights don't work
any help would be appreciated

check fuses for your brake lights.

for your headlights you might need new bulbs, my low beams dont work but my highs do, dont know if they work in reverse like that too but try replacing and see if it works.

Like MDeezy said, your headlight bulbs might need replacing. The 9004 bulb is a dual filament bulb design. It is possible that the low beam filaments have gone out.

As it turns out both headlamps were blown out, they were replaced 6 months ago when the vehicle had an accident. The bulbs didn't even have a name on them.
The rest of the lights were ok, my daughter doesn't know how the brake, tail, signal, or backup lights operate.
Unbelievable !!!
