Knockings in front end.

I am beginning to hear muffled knockings in the front end of my 96 Maxima when I turn and/or hit a big bump. Any idea of what could be wrong? I think it has something to do with my steering because at times it feels as though it is grinding. What should I do? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Do you get the knocking sound when not moving, but just turning the steering back and forth?

Yes, but it is a much worse knocking if I'm going over a bump while turning.

Sounds like you need new upper strut mounts (part 2 in the pic, ~$35 each from Nissan). It would probably be a good idea to replace the strut bearings as well (part 4 in the pic, ~$18 each from Nissan).

Well that might explain it since I just installed new springs. I'll look into that, thanks for the info!

Ohhhh, since you just did new springs...

Go back and double check that your top nut on the strut and the 3 strut mounting bolts are all torqued to spec. They may have come loose, causing the knocking.

Oh alright. I'm pretty sure that they're all tight though.

how much would it be to replace a set of parts 1-7 in the diagram?

do you also have a pic of the rear suspension....not much to replace there I assume compared to the front...
