Who has taken off the black on their pillers?

I remember people saying if you removed the black plastic the underside is a final coat of paint. Who has does this? Is it as easy as it sounds?

The thing is I got the dark pearl blue color so it wont stand out that much. So Im trying to decide if its worth it or not.
Does Goo-Off do the trick?

I have a Pearl white and It looks great... Its different from the rest out there... I used sticker remover, then 3M Adhesive remover... Be careful with your nails scraping, you gotta put a little elbow grease into it but the results are sweet. Since you have a dark color it might not look as sudden as lighter paint??? Good Luck

Can someone help me out here? I started this about 3 months ago, and got my passenger side done. As i proceeded to the drivers side, i start, peel about 1/64 inch away, and notice that the paint under is not black emerald, it is purple. I guess when my door got replaced, actually I have no clue. Could someone help me with some options? Actually I am considering repainting the whole car. I really want a black car, and I'mretty confident in my painting abilities, plus Ihave access to my uncle's booth, so that wont be a problem, but yeah, advice appreciated.

emm, i suggest you not painting it yourself, unless you have major experience. the purplae may be caused by the combo of you color and the yellow glue residue, make sure you got it all off.

I was afraid to peel the black tape off of my door pillars because of the same reason. I might find a door or two with a different color. However, after seeing many pictures I really want to do this because the black tape on mine are so discolored and very ugly looking. I guess I'll start behind each door first, perhaps cut a small piece out with an exacto knife to see if the color is the same and if so I can proceed with the rest.
