leather seats

so i was at the junkyard yesterday looking for a couple parts to replace some of the broken ones on my new max and i happened to find three 4th gen max's with black leather interior which were practically flawless the cars were all smashed and i think one was missing an engine but the interiors were all in fairly good condition, especially the seats. now im thinking of an interior swap.... it would be a huge project but i think white with black leather would be very nice

Just swapping the the seats and door panels to get the the leather isnt all that difficult.

But if you need to swap everyhitng else to do a complete color change, that IS pretty hard.

I hope your gonna change the ceiling cover too. Beige ceiling and black seats wouldn't look great. Is there a White exterior and black interior stock combo?

this isn't too difficult the seats are very easy, and the door panels should be simple too but i think the dash and liner on the ceiling will be some work. I am local and if you need a hand shoot me a pm.

i have seen pics on-line of peoples on-going projects to swap interiors and it looks like a b*tch. i dont know how it would look if i just swapped the seats but hey i could do the seats now and when im really bored later on i could attempt the rest of the interior

also does anyone know how hard/expensive it is to replace power seat motors in case the new seats didnt work? thanks

The seat motors will work they don't wear out very easily but if they are bad you can just swap the whole rail assembly. I did mine when i bought my leather seats from a junk yard if you need a hand i can show you what needs ot be done.

i was wondering that myself, if they want anymore than $100 i would pass and keep my current tan leather, although it is quite worn

no Leather seats aren't cheap even in a junk yard. My set cost me $300 just for the seats and that was pretty cheap.

I got lucky and stumbled upon mint cond. black leather seats and black door panels with leather inserts for $250. The headliner is time consuming but relatively easy to change. First, take out the headliner and sunroof trap door (if equipped), and tear off the stock colored cloth while leaving the foam pad underneath the colored part. Then go to any fabric store (I used Jo-Ann fabrics here in CT) and buy a piece of headliner material in black. I think I bought 7' x 5' and I had enough to redo the whole project incuding the sunroof.Spray the adhesive on the stock foam part AND on the backside of the new headliner and press them together while stretching it a ittle bit to get eid of any wrinkles.
give it a shot.....quite easy and mine looks good as new. I will post pics when I get a chance.

I stumbled accross black leather seats at a junkyard and i payed 200 for front and back. 100 for the door panels and 50 for a headliner and carpet. Now the problem is if you want true black carpet or headliner the original stuff doesnt work. Nissan doesnt make a true black headliner or carpet. For carpet go to JCwhitney.com and for the headliner i just covered mine with the exact same vinyl thats used on the back of the seats. The vinyl cost like $65 for 3 yards which is enough to do your pillars and your headliner. For the back speaker board you may need another yard. I will post pics on my site soon so you can check it out. Hope i was helpful

oh yeah i forgot. I got a price for black and silver seatbelts and it was 150 to change all of them. The dash is up to you, i painted mine black with about 8 coats and i havent had any problems with it.(1 year has passed since it was painted) Thats about it. Its a very time consuming project but i will say this WELL WORTH THE WORK AND TIME.

Yeah, I have black leather black. Is nice and looks cool, but I have a metalic sliver exterior. Everything is black except the wood(brown) trim. Getting the seat from junkyard is not cheap. Some places are comparable to retail price.

yeah thats a good idea, rather than swap out an entire dash i could just paint the existing one. makes more sense. so it seems like i could swap the seats, paint the dash, swap out the center compartment (around the shifter and the center arm rest, i already found one of those), depending on how bad the floor carpet looks i could either leave it or swap it, i dunno about the carpet surrounding the rear speakers. it will definitely be a prokject but i think it would be fun and make my max a lot nicer if done right!!

All junk yards in the denver area wanted about $400 per seat that were supposedly mint. So I spent about $500 for brand new after market leather that I installed myself. 10 X better than factory leather!

Maybe see if you can sell the other seats, then he might give you a deal on the third set. Seats don't like the exposure to the elements, he might go for it. Hell, asking doesn't cost a dime and certainly you can find someone who will appreciate you finding nice seats. Just a thought.

carpet is no problem to remove at all. very simple when you got the seats out of the car. dash is also very simple to remove. it is held in place with a couple of bolts and nuts. to remove the dash you will have to remove gauge cluster, center console, glovebox, airbag, and a couple of other pieces. to swap a complete interior would take a whole day to do but it is worth it in the end. at least my i30 interior swap was worth it.lol. i say go for it and i can offer help if you need any.

a number of members here on the org have done it. i'm sure you could sell your interior and make some, if not all of your money back depending on the deal you get on the interior. if you want help, depending on the time, i'd be willing to lend a hand and i'm sure you could talk some other mass guys into it.

THis was the real deal. Hog ringed it to the factory foam and everything. I have not seen exact fit seat covers for our cars, but I am sure they exist.
