Factory keyless entry died????
Factory keyless entry died????
Hey guys, I went to lock my doors with the factory remote.... nothing. I replaced the battery in the remote..... nothing. I tried my wifes remote.... nothing. So I've eliminated the remotes as the problem. I lock the doors with the key.... works fine all doors lock etc and flashing alarm light works. From the inside power door lock switch works fine. I checked my Haynes manual, it refers to the stealership for keyless entry trouble, it has info on the power door locks, but that's not my problem. I'm assuming there's some kind of remote controller module/receiver in the car that activates the power locks when the remote is used, does anyone know anything about this thing and or where it is located? Is there an aftermarket replacement or factory? I'd appreciate any help, I'm hoping I can just replace that unit and guessing I'll have to reprogram the remotes after that happens? Or did others in the past just install aftermarket alarms? I went through the stickies, if there is anything there I must have missed it, thanks in advance for any help, someone must have run into this problem?????
Thanks at least now I know where it is located, I wonder ( besides getting 12 volt power) if there is anyway of telling the BCM is working??
PS. what does BCM stand for?
Body Control Module ! found the name thanks
Anyone had this problem??? Asuming the BCM needs to be changed, I'm guessing the remotes will need to be reprogrammed also?

Now I'm wondering if that unit is a BCM, according to the Haynes manual the BCM is located in the front with the ECU! Are there two BCM's? or is this rear one actually this "Here's the procedure from the 1995 Factory Shop Manual
Replacing Remote Controller or Multi-Remote Control Unit (LCU05)
Enter the identity (ID) code manually when:
remote controller or multi-remote control unit LCU05 is replaced.
an additional remote controller is activated.
ID Code Entry Procedure.... "
Does anyone know where the LCU05 is located? or is it actually thee unit located by the power antenna in the trunk???

Try reprogramming the remote first. The instructions are in the stickies. I had the same problems you discribed, but alas nothing worked I had to replace the control module, which I am sorry to say is rather expensive. The stealership wanted $550 for it, but I got a brand new one from www.everythingnissan.com . They offer OEM Nissan parts at wholesale (50% off dealer list price), so I got it for half that. Also, keep you eye out for a used one in the 4th gen classifieds, you might just get lucky.

BCM is Body Control Module
BCM is the brain (CPU) of the car. It controls all the functions in our car. There is another 5 LCU unit that connects to the BCM. One on each door and one in the truck (keyless entry unit). I don't think you need to change the BCM (located behind the sterero headunit with 3 screws).
If you do a search on BCM, you might find a bit more info. I had a problem similar to you situation. I thought about replace the BCM when I had that problem. To replace the BCM, you need to have the same year and trim. Same year with different trim will not be compatible with your car. A 1999 GLE is not compatible with a 1996 GLE. Replacing the BCM will be the last resort.
I would suggest you unplug the BCM to check all the wiring. I did a reset and everything came back online. Reset consist of unplugging the BCM connectors and plugging back. Let me know how it goes.

His problem is not related to that at all. The if the reprogram fails and he has already ruled out the key fob then it is the remote control module in the trunk. A problem like this is unrelated to the ECU (also known as the ECM, but I have never heard of it refered to as ''BCM'', and using that term is what got the poor guy confused in the first place).
I guess I am partly at fault for the confusion. I referred to the module in the trunk as the BCM...but only because I thought they were all called BCMs, with the exception of the ECU. I known the ECU is not a BCM! So...the units in the doors and trunk are called LCUs! All these connect to the BCM, which sits under the radio. Got it...sorry about that!

Hey no probs, got it all sorted out anyway, thanks for the help. It's not easy diagnosing problems without actually seeing the vehicle and it's symptoms, but a special thanks to I30ds he defintely got me on the right track.
If anyone's interested I did get it fixed for no cost. I unplugged the LCU in the trunk, and plugged it back in. I followed I30ds link service bulletin instructions to reprogram the remotes (2) after putting in new batteries, but I could only get one to work so I went to the dealer they tested my remotes to make sure they were operating okay ( which they were, well one's a little flakey but working) the problem I was having which I don't think was very clear in the service bulletin was once you're in the programming mode and you've programmed the first remote in order to do the second you must turn the key into the "off" position then back to "acc" position and hit the "lock" button on the second remote. Then unlock and open the drivers door to get it out of the progamming mode. I wasn't turning the ignition off and on again, I was just hitting the lock button on the second remote, maybe others could check the link:http://www.jatan.net/tsbs/044567.pdf to see i was just totally missing that, but anyways all is good and everything is working fine. I still don't know why it went down in the first place? It wasn't my batteries as both remotes stopped at the same time, for the two days I was manually opening the doors etc I realized how much that sucks! Thanks again for the help guys and I hope this helps others!
