0401 Intake Air Temp?

Ok, so I need to do a smog check to get registered in Cali, the problem is my SES light is on and the code 0401, Intake Air Temperature Sensor. Is this a sensor located near the mass air flow sensor right behind the intake cone filter? Is it connected to the "ram-air" black plastic inlet that connects to the air box? If so, this is valuable info because I removed that piece and that might be the problem. Please help, I can't get a smog check until I can reset my check engine light.

yes it is, if you have a cai, there should be a hole for it to plug into your cai, it should be after the maf going into your throttle body. Mine just had a plug over it, I took it out and put the sensor in. Rather than just having the sensor lay around.

The "boost" sensor is the one that was connected to the ram air piece. I don't have a cold air intake, just a stillen pop charger. How do I "plug" it into the intake, it's just a wire harness plugged into a sensor that is connected to a metal bracket? Any info is much appreciated.

do these sensors go bad? I plugged mine in into the CAI pipe but the code came up a week later anyway. If so, where can you buy a new sensor?

Where is the sensor? Is it the "boost" sensor connected to the ram air? Is it the sensor hanging down inside the mass air flow sensor? Is it behind the mass air flow sensor? I still am not sure where it is and how you fix it.

when I removed the ram air intake, the boost sensor would just be lying around. I just kept it connected and zip tied it to something up front. The other sensor I remember is in the ram air intake tubing, after it comes from the front it swoops down into the engine bay, there is a sensor there which I took and placed it into my intake.

yea, the stillen pop charger isnt CARB legal, so you wont pass california smog with that on your car. swap it out for the stock intake or, depending on the situation, prepare to 1. fail smog 2. have to pay a fix-it ticket 3. grease some wheels at the smog checking place

SXN,
My car isn't a cali spec, it's out of state and emmission regulations are less strict, In fact I already passed in 2002 with flying colors. Sincen then I added a y-pipe, high-flow cat, and 2.5" b pipe with dynomax clone muffler. But I figured out what was wrong mith my intake air temp sensor.....I didn't have one. I accidently ripped it out with the ram air piece. So all I need is a new sensor to plug onto the wire harness and I'm sure I'll pass. Throw a little Lucas Oil injector cleaner, I'm sure I'm cool.

Felix you can get them at a Nissan dealership. MSRP is about $64. Dealer price is about $51.

SXN,
thank goodness my girlfriend is a manager at a Mazda dealership, so she can get a service tech to smog it for only the cost of the certificate, like $8.75 or something rediculous like that. However their machine wont enable them to smog check if my check engine light is on, that's why I gotta get a new Intake Air Temp sensor. So I'm sure that they won't care whether I have an aftermarket intake or not. But thanks for the info. Cali smog is a bi*ch.
