LEDs in vents

Where do you folks use the power source to light up the LEDs in the center vents?

it depends do you want them on when your lights are on if you do just tap into the power from your climate control... if not you could tap your power from any source and just wire a toggle switch to control them... i have leds in my door handle pockets and they are on a line with my neons back from the battery with an inline fuse

i would like to light up the vents when i turn on the parking light (meaning the interior lights when driving at night). am i drawing too much power from the climate control using 2 LEDs at 5000mcd?

Anyone have pics of this? I'm going to take apart the center of my dash to hard wire in my new radar detector, and I've got plenty of LED's around, so I'm just curious to see if this looks cool or if it looks really ricey. Please show your results!!!

hmmm... if i use the cig lighter, will it draw too much power because i use the cig lighter for several different devices?

10 inch blacklights? i don't plan on installing 10 inch light but i curious, where you install this 10 inch light, there isn't much space behind the dash nor the vent area. i'm curious on how it looks. do you have pics?

You will be fine running it off your cig lighter. Led's do not use much power at all. Also make sure you use resistors cause 12v's isway to much for led's.

they lkook much brighter than this in person, also the vents fins are blocking the lght out

wow that looks awesome.

I wouldn't worry too much about the cig lighter power...I blew a fuse (cell phone adapter had a short in it) and replaced it with one rated for half the current, and I still haven't had a problem running multiple devices. I'm going to hard wire my radar detector in soon, and i'm just going to tap it in to that circuit so I don't have to use the stupid splitter.

How many LED's did you use? How many resistors? How many watts/ohms were the resistors rated for?

continue with those vent pics. they look awesome. and thanks to all of you folks who reply to the topic.

ManualMaxima and hollaatchaboi, how do you hold those leds in place. did you drill any hole to hold those leds? did you use a switch to control those leds?

No...i only did it with the blue. I just recently did my window switches and climate control with a mix of blue and white. As for the led's in the vent, I have 4 led's. There are already holes in the vents that you can stick them through. I soldered a resistor to each. Then I put all positives together and all negatives together. I have them wired to my hazard light button so they turn on when I turn on my lights. Red and blue is the + (illumination wire) and red and yellow wire is - (dimmer wire). This way, they will dim with the dimmer and all interior lights also.

I want to know if anyone has ever gotten led's in the outer vents. I don't want to unscrew my whole dash to do this.
