OE shocks need break-in period???

If only the "SEARCH" button would work...I would do a search, but 90% of the times, it's disabled!!!! Anyways, I just recently replaced my 2 front struts for my 98 Maxima. Both shocks are new OEM and my car is not lowered; entire suspension setup is stock. After the new shocks, my car rides so much harder. Every bump that I hit, it feels like there's no shocks at all. On uneven pavements, it's even worst. It makes this thumpy sound with every crack in the road. I talked to the mechanic that did the job and he said there's a break-in period. Well, it has been a month and still the same thumpy noise. Anybody got any clues to what might be the problem? Thanks in advance.

If it's really rough, you should go back and make sure all the mounting bolts are tight.
