hi

A friend and I were installing my new HKS intake in my 96 GLE, and we found out that the car would not rev past 2500 rpm... if it did, it would then start sorta spit-firing, and the car would just die. I believe (I am not sure) that the air temp sensor might have broken, cos the damn thing was screwed on so tight onto the existing filter cover that we had to pry it out. Right now my car is at the nissan dealership and the f**kin guy talks like the intake does NO GOOD to the maxima. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem?

thanx

Re: did u at all play with the ecu?

yep... we tried resetting the ecu but still it didnt help. the guy at the dealership told me that the MAF sensor was shorted... then he scared me by saying that the ecu might also be shorted, but would the car even start up if the ecu was shorted? damn... its been a loooong and depressing day... hope it works though.

I had this same problem...

After an agonizing experience of have the bolts that held my stock air box to the body basically crack at the turn of a socket, I had this same problem.

I got the intake on, and began to rev the engine. Sounded like crap and around 3000 rpm, the engine would just shut off.

I about crapped my pants.

Check and make sure you have all clips reconnected,...I had disconnected one clip (not sure which one) so i could screw in the bottom back right bolt of the intake and forgot to connect it back.

Once i clipped it in, my car was golden and has been ever since.

Good luck.

Nissan mechanics will almost always say that any modification that you do to your car will screw it up. They are full of crap. Now for your problem, did you disconnect the MAF and forget to reconnect it?? I did that when I installed my JWT and the C/E light came on, and it wouldn't rev past 2500. I plugged it back in, reset the ECU and it's been perfect since (did the mod in December). Don't let the Nissan mechanic scare you....theres no way that you shorted out your ECU or you MAF....unless you screwed around with some wiring.
