i rebuilt chain system

hi everybody

my mechanic just rebuilt my chain system almost entirely, he changed the timing chain, tensioners , guide, and water pump

along with knock sensor

he asked for about 380$ labour, do u think he abused me?

i heard minor rattling at some occations after rebuilding, but lately dissapeared completely, what does this mean?

btw oxygen sensors trigers the engine check, does this have an effect on performance?

thanks

7.9 hours, at $50/hr, that's about $395. Sounds right for all that.

Water pump... (3.6hr) * ($50/hr) = $180. Ant, did your mechanic take real good care of your car?

Yea he did a great job... but only took about 6 hours..

Yesterday after a visit to another shop about some other problems, I asked the guy about a water pump job.. he said $200...

Because the chain had no oil on it, you have to wait a few minutes until the oil circulates onto the chain. It will give you a nasty rattle and then ago away.

this is not the case, the engine rattled even when it is at operating temperature, i mean it rattled (minor) for sometime after having a ride, it did this few times, but after one week or so, the engine stopped rattling completely

does this have to do anything with the quality of his job? i mean the mechanic who fixed the engine

i will have him fix it again if it is his mistake, so did anyone experience this before?

thanks for the input

Yeah, when you change your water pump or drain your coolant, it might rattle till all the air is purged. Mine rattled for 1min. Scary sound. It's like, a really really really bad engine knock/ping.

it's the tensioner, oil pressure has to hold the plunger against the chain guide. for whatever reason it usually takes a while get the holding pressure back whenever you pull it out to change the waterpump or guide. sometimes minutes or days. but it's ok, scary, but ok.
