Exhaust tone of Magnaflow

Soon after I finish paying for my rims, I am going to get exhaust. I am leaning more towards the Magnaflow Universal muffler #14289. Does anyone have any clips or can tell me what the exhaust note is like?

--I am looking for a deep growl at idle and under normal accel., but when I stomp on it I want it to really growl. From what I have heard, the Magnaflow tends to get quiet.... true?

i prefer the deep rumble of a borla proXS muffler to the magnaflow. every clip i hear of a magnaflow or flowmaster doesn't sound nearly as deep at mine. those mufflers sound a tad rapsy in comparison.

And where can I get a Borla?

I just put a magnaflow on my 97. It has a nice hum to it from idle up to about 2500. Thats where its the loudest, but once the revs get up above that the intake seems to be louder. Ive been told by a few people that my max now sounds a lot like a g35 coupe. All in all im happy with it.

The sound really depends on what else you have done to your exhaust.. With a Y-pipe, stock cat, custom resonated b-pipe and the magnaflow 14829, my car was pretty loud, and a little raspy. You're prolly better off with a borla. I eventually replaced the resonator with a turbo muffler... the magnaflow is really nothing more than a big resonator so, it still flows better than stock. Things are a lot more tolerable now.

It isn't so much that the magnaflow gets quiet at higher rpms, so much as it doesn't keep getting louder past ...idunno 3500? It is very loud at low rpms. So driving it, you would expect that the car would sound like a top feul dragster by redline.

A day or two ago I hit the top of 2nd going thru an underpass and I assure you it is just as loud.

I also have wsp y, budget 2.5" b (with magnaflow res), and magnaflow #14827. I've had the cat-back for about a month now and am still getting used to it. Don't get me wrong, I like the sound. But I might replace the resonator with another muffler. lol

Oops... I mean 14829

Also-- the only reason I am going for the Magnaflow over the GReddy SP2 is because of the money. Id rather get Magnaflow muffler, FSTB, RSB, and Tein S-techs with the same amount of money of the GReddy.

But I don't want the Magnaflow to sound bad. I listened to your clips SCAREFACE and I really like the sound, but would mine sound like that with just a budget y-pipe and HAI

All i can say is its FRIKKEN LOUD, totaly rice, not happy with it at all, sounds raspy if i really get on it. budget y pipe, resonated B, stock cat, and its not fun especially in traffic. very lound at 2500, not as noticable on the highway but.. let me put it this way, I now get very shy when i pass some one with their window cracked.

That's how my car sounded before I put the resonator on. The car used to turn heads for the wrong reason. I feel or felt your pain

So one person is sayin its loud and the other is sayin its quiet...??

If I get an aftermarket b pipe... is that what makes it sounds "rice"?

I like my Magnaflow #14842 muffler. You are right dj, after about 2500rpms the intake takes over and you can't hear the exhaust at all. The tone is really deep and not raspy at all. It is a bit loud for my tastes, but i've had worse ('88 carburated Toyota Corolla with no cat and a Ractive muffler ). I'm not sure, but i think it's the precats that cause the exhaust to die off around 2500...i need to get a y-pipe soon to find out for sure.

yes, aftermarket B pipe is what makes it loud

my magnaflow is not much louder than the 5th gen muffler I had on the car for a few months...

I got the Magnaflow in my car and love the deep sounds it makes and the way it looks, It is a not crazy loud at all; besides I think is very affordable at $110 plus $75 to install it. Other decent brands go for twice the price.

Note quite. Adding a Ypipe is what makes the exhaust loud.

BTW... Magnaflow mufflers sound like crap on maximas. My friend has one, and sound like a POS. Stick with a greddy, or stock 5th gen..

If you actually want an increase in power, an aftermarket b-pipe is where it'll all come from, just doing the muffler is like 1-2hp.. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of my magnaflow but if I was to do it over again, I'd just get a 2.5" resonated b-pipe and a 5th gen muffler with some nice tips. (I'd modify the bumper cutout to more of an oval shape while im at it, but anyways.)
