I get about 130-135 miles per tank of gas while driving in NYC, no hwy miles. Do you think its normal??????? I am not agressive driver, just drive normally like 30-40-50 miles per hour where is appropriate. Car runs very well no problems. Perhaps injectors inject too much gas? Anyone has advices to save my gas consuption?

I live in Brooklyn, but drive in the city often. It's 50/50 highway/streets (the highway oftentimes moves just as slow though), but I do manage to get around 17mpg.

 

It really sucks that our Maximas eat up gas here in Brooklyn, I remmy that when i bought Maxima 6 months ago it managed to get 160 miles on full tank and since that it gets only 130-135 miles on tank, and since our tank is 14 gallons, means i get 12 miles per gallon it really sucks!

But when i do hwy such as from NYC to PA or DE, I get about 300-350 miles on full tank.

Probably will get air intake since it will reduce gas consumption.

..But I drive there every single day from Staten Island now, I drive down the Belt and big streets like Coney island ave. or Bay Parkway.. even when it's mostly smooth driving I get ****ty gas milage, like 180 miles on a full tank. That sucks for mostly highway driving, I should be getting way more then that even if I drive in all city traffic....
By the way bro, V nashih maximah benzobak 18 s polovinoy gallonov! seryozno... pravda kogda ti doeszhayesh do nulya i svet zogorayetsa, tam vse rovno eshe gdeto 2-3 gallona. Ya zapravlayus na dvadtat dollorov kazhdih 3 dnya.. Eto problemma, Ya uveren shto mi dolszni poluchat hotyabi 16-19 mpg tolko v gorode!

Possible causes:
Bad O2 sensor
May need a tune up
air filter
low tire pressure
Clogged fuel injectors
Irregular fuel pressure (fuel pressure regulator)


I allready replaced, checked or fixed everything on that list, though the only ones that can affect it that much are probably the o2 sensor or injectors.

Sprashivaya drugih s maximami, vse poluchayut ot 16-20 mpg po gorodu, ya poluchau 12!!! Pravda moya mashina staree, i v hudshem sostoyanii.. vse rovno.

u menya vse druzia na Maxima ezdyat tolko, nekotorie nachali na 3rd generation potom pereshli libo na 4th ili 5th generation!

One thing what sucks is a bad milleage in the city, but on hwy it goes 300-400 miles on 1 tank!

 

I live in Brooklyn also, and I get about 19 mpg. I do most of my driving between here and Staten Island. I really cant complain about the mileage.(my last car was a V6 also, but it got about 14 mpg and that was highway)

I get about 19 mpg on my altima. I'd have to say 60/40 highway/city though.

 

isn't Altima a 4 cylinder car? can't really compare apples to oranges......

 

Agreed here and isn't Altima considered to be girls car? They have a shallow 145 HP compared to Maxima 195 HP!!! 4cyl vs 6cyl!!!!

It could also be the thermostat in your cooling system stuck open, making the engine run too cool. This would make the fuel injection system run in "choke" mode... which is "extra rich" mode, and sucks a lot of gas.

wow... i can't imagine only getting that few miles on a tank of gas... i know that you guys drive only in the city which reflects that few of miles, but i'm frustrated if i don't get at least 430 miles on a tank...

 

OK point taken with the 4 cyl. vs. 6 cyl. thing.

Second, Altimas have 150 HP (93-99) 155(00-01) 180('02) 240('02 SE). The 4 cyl. 6cyl is why you guys have that much more horse power. We'll see how many max's can hang with the '02 SE altima.

 

Dont frgt 2002 Maxima with 265HP so eat our dust when we go for 2002 Maxima! Altima is for cheap people.
