My brother also has a Maxima, and he just came to learn that his two front CV boots are torn. They must be recent tears because a shop said most of the grease is still in there and and the axles are fine.

What is a reasonable price to have the CV boots replaced? I remember the morocans down the road replaced my whole axle for 200 bucks, and I think most places want about 150 just for the boot. That's nuts

Any way to patch them up? Like duct tape or something?

 

duct tape? come on now. i got both for a 100 around where i live.

 

if you refilled with greese and duck tape that could hold for a while.

raxles.com seems to be the best, they have new axles and I just got a quote from them 119.00 for driver side axle and 149.00 for passenger side axle.

sounds like a great price for new axles.



if you have the time motorave has a write up on how to rebuild them yourself, but it seems pretty time consuming, but you'll save alot.

 

Or, you could get the refurbished half-axles from autozone. $55 per side after you return the core. cheap!

 

damn didnt know auto zone did that, might check them out if cash is too short.

 

Duct tape doesn't hold a day.
There is an e-bay seller who sells new axles. His price is very competitive for a new axle. I ended up buying from raxles.com and never bought from him but judging from responses I got from him, he seems to be an honest seller. I saw a post not long ago by an .org member who actually bought one from him.

 

I payed about $70 to replace/regrease one boot.
